Yes, lets waste a quota spot on a winger. Not. If we really want a winger I'd be looking at Wigan, as they have four really good ones, any of whom would go well with any other team, and clearly at least two of them won't play every week unless they move into the centres. I can't even see us doing that TBH, unless we offload at least one of Handley and Golding.

If Garbutt leaves its safe to assume that Meerin wasn't the only NRL target. I just hope that if Merrin's not coming we don't knee-jerk a plan B and end up with another overseas plodder lump for 3 years. I'd rather leave a spot open and aim to get real quality for 2020 than end up having another duffer on a 3-year deal.

My views of Phil Gould continue to go south. His knowledge of the game is unquestionable, but he's deliberately tried to destroy Griffin's reputation in the course of firing him (how dare Griffin question what Gus said!), screwed the Tigers by lying about going after Cleary, and on a more mundane level has also shown he doesn't care if players are used like pawns in his quest for Penrith to win a competition.

There is simply no way Leeds' discussions with Merrin would have got past the first casual chat unless Penrith had made clear they were happy to let him go (for him to discuss further they must have told Merrin they wanted him to go/he didn't feature in their plans). I'm not that upset he hasn't joined us because his heart didn't seem to be in it, but he's been royally messed around as well, most likely because whoever Gould wanted to replace him is no longer interested/available.

The YEP says we want two more World Class players, that’s not necessarily the same as two more marquee players.

One should be a prop and the other a back rower. Then we should go get whichever winger Wigan are willing to let go.
