That try shouldn't have been given because it was clearly against the rules. Wether the rule be changed or not to allow those type of tries...well....another debate.

For him to give that try was incompetence beyond belief.

Of course it was an awful decision he was infront of the Kicker, never gets played onside and if he would have been onside in the first place he gets to where the ball is 2 metres later and the try doesn't happen. I don't care if it's 30 yards or 300.
