Isolated quotes given at the end of an emotionally draining and thoroughly disappointing evening for both men.
But really, if anyone - reasonable Wigan fans included - doubted the premise of this thread...

Don't have an issue with many of the comments from Wigan but I hope that one from lenigan "Leeds have matured, they'll struggle to compete with Wigan next year" is one we should be noting down for future motivational use

So leeds are already being written off for the years ahead.
It's a dangerous train of thought from leneghan. Of course the players that have left will leave a big hole, but leeds will still have one of the best backlines in the league, the experience of mcguire and burrow in the centre as well as the class of cuthbertson and garbutt in the middle with JJB, ward, Sutcliffe and hopefully a good hooker to come into the team that won the grand final.
Leeds should still be a dangerous team in the hunt.

| Some seem to be getting the wrong end of the stick. In the OP I'm not talking about Wigan fans, or expecting their players to be gushing about us. I'm just pointing out that it shows an insight to that club's mentality. Forged by Wane. You seen the petulance on the field, you've seen Wane on the documentary and wonder what it's like in their environment. I genuinely believe that the over confidence and self importance that Wane fills them with, will continue to make that group implode on the big stage

| And you're talking nonsense. At what point did Wigans over confidence cause them to self implode on Saturday night? From what I saw Leeds deservedly won a tight game between 2 quality teams.

| Hey, maybe Wane learned it in his time at Leeds? Your coach and team don't seem to lack self belief. Oh i forgot he learned it from Maguire, the man who "introduced niggle" to rugby league!!!!

Now how many times have we heard that regarding Leeds since 2007?

| Quote apollosghost="apollosghost"Talk about polishing your halo, by a country mile the worst incident of the match was the hit on Manfredi, lucky we're not playing Union because that would have been a straight red.
PS, once again congratulations on winning, you deserved it for coming up with the big plays when it mattered.'"
That's hilarious, wouldn't be a straight red in a game of touch never mind in union.
You really should watch the replay. Singleton wasn't even making a tackle it was a prop forwards attempt at challenging for the ball. Technically probably not even a penalty - tho clumsy and dangerous so fair enough

| Quote DHM="DHM"It's rugby league, front up or leave the pitch.'"
I cant quite believe you have a strap line about a head butt and youre engaging in this discussion, but go on then ... farrell dropping on McGuire after hes scored, tomkins giving him a shove and a fore arm after the manfredi try it was petulant and cowardly and niggly and targeted. Dont remember Andy Platt or Dennis Betts needing niggle. Its not rugby league to niggle its childish and out of wanes coaching manual.

| Quote ThePrinter="ThePrinter"I think it stems back even further with the 2010 playoffs "Rugby Gods" game and the 2011 Cup final when a lot of pushing and shoving after the final whistle.
Whenever we beat Saints or Warrington, Sinfield has called the opposition a "champion team", I don't think he's ever used that term about Wigan although might've missed it.'" The main euphemism used is that senior Leeds players and especially McDermott will refer to Saints or Wire as teams who "play the game the right way". They may applaud Wigan for bringing through young British players but they will never use that particular phrase.
Think back through Leeds-Wigan in recent years, from the Rugby God incident, through the bog brush, the last minute penalty and Saturday night. With a little bit of probing, Leeds players have made little secret of their view of how Wigan approach and play the game.
As for Wane as an individual, I'd have a lot more time for him if he'd shown 10% of the passion he shows today when he was playing in the blue and amber. His ambitions and energy clearly come to an end when he leaves the WN postcode area - the very epitome of the small town mentality.
