St George lost their 6th consecutive NRL match today and lots of moans about half-backs Marshall and Widdop. Some supporters even questioning whether Widdop would be there in 2016, the inference being that he would be playing for Leeds? It appears all is not well at St George's, they are blaming the halves and I wouldn't be surprised if they let one of the pair leave?

Marshall is a spent force and Widdop is like a lot of ex Melbourne players - take them out of the structure that Bellamy provides and they can't cut it. Adam Blair looked like a world beater at Melbourne now you wonder what all the hype was about.

Its easier to look good when coached by the best in the world and surrounded by 3 of the greatest players in the game. I cannot see the interest in Widdop - he looks distinctly average to me.

marshall is on a massive money deal at st george and cant see him moving here and widdop is just dipped in form, it happens neither will be in super league next year both would be snapped up over there. widdop loves the aussie lifestyle parents and close family all live there and is married to aussie. he did say 1 day he would like a crack at super league cant see for a few years

Don't be too quick to judge, this is from a review of last night's Broncos game:
"2. Wayne Bennett has got the best out of Adam Blair.
Blair is returning to the form of his Melbourne days after struggling throughout his time with today’s opponents the Wests Tigers. Master coach Bennett has a simple game plan and he has Blair performing a very simple role which is suiting the Kiwi international."

Sorry, this post smacks of somebody offering opinion on a league they don't have enough knowledge about.

I think you're being harsh there - there's a whole list of players who've looked like world beaters at Melbourne, gaining rep honours or huge deals elsewhere to ultimately turn out bang average. Without even thinking about it too much, some recent examples include;

Adam Blair (NZ) - Big money move but garbage at Wests, slightly less garbage at Broncos, though currently defending well.
Sika Manu (NZ) - Big money move and bang average at Penrith, lost his NZ spot
Dane Neilson (QLD) - QLD centre and big money move to Warriors, garbage at Warriors and lost his place, moved to Dragons and struggled to get a game before being sacked as soon as an opportunity arose.
Anthony Quinn (NSW) - Got a NSW Jersey despite being a poor mans David Williams

Then there are journeymen props that are as average/poor as they come, but look decent when asked to do a simply job like Brian Norrie, Ryan Tandy etc

I've said for a few years I don't see the hype with Widdop - he doesn't particularly excel at anything (he's got decent footwork, but not in the same realms as some of the NRLs finest), his basic skills are good, and he won't let anyone down, but he's certainly not 'marquee'.

Maybe we won't be signing an NRL headliner as the Marque player could it be a player from within move him off the cap and give others a rise?

A little bit of press over the weekend that St George are looking at a new halfback for next season. That's speculation from people in the know in the media from both hemispheres. I'm not saying it's gonna happen. I've just heard a few interesting comments that IMO have more to them. Probably wishful thinking from me as unlike some I rate Widdop highly. I recon he would be a dream fit to replace Sir Kev.

I agree I think widdop would be a perfect fit for us. Not sure it will happen but would be happy if it did happen

Just because you rate Widdop highly doesn't make it fact. You are entitled to your opinion my view is your opinion is cloudy by thinking Widdop is a the world beater he quite clearly isn't. One thing is for certain he is miles away from being a Johnson or Thurston - he is a poor man's Mitchell Pearce

It is all opinions, that's all it can really be, but I would think and hope you would be in a minority in world rugby playing down Widdop. Either way, whether a Johnson or Thurston, or not, he does however seem an absolute perfect fit for replacing Sinfield, and to be honest that is more important than a lot of other things.
