Quote: Andy Gilder "The McGillivray try was a carbon copy of ones you see every week.
The defender is stationary under the high ball, the attacker has run on him and gets slightly higher. It's a well placed kick matched with a well timed run. To lay any of the blame at Handley's door completely ignores the fact there was nothing much else he could have done to improve his chances.
Sometimes you have time to take a couple of steps back then come forward again and jump. I don't think on this occasion that he did.'"
I think you might need to watch it again Andy. There is a few points flawed there.
He wasn't stationary for a start, he actually jumped for the ball. The scorer didn't jump higher, he was behind Handley and caught the ball after Handley had touched it. The issue was Handley misjudged it, was too far forward, and proceeded to tip the ball in the air backwards to McGillvray.
You are spot on with your last sentence, and on that this is where he could have done something more to improve his chances. You are also correct to say it was a well placed kick, but one where had Handley positioned himself correct he would have taken all day long.
