| Quote Allez="Allez"Very very well deserved (from a Saints fan). Kevin is a role model on and off the field and his award is well deserved. A credit to Leeds and RL in general.'"
You beat me to it. I'm also a Saints fan and, as my son knows only too well (he's also a Saints fan!) I'm a big fan of Sinny. He's been an inspiration and role model to young players for many years and he thoroughly deserves the award. He comes across well on TV (as does Jamie Peacock, Ryan Hall, Rob Burrow, JJB, etc) so you Loiners should be very proud of the good blokes you have in your team. Well done Kev.

| Quote ThePrinter="ThePrinter"Perhaps sometimes you have to put your own views behind and think of others. How much this means to the Leeds club, to the fans, to his teammates and coaches, the sport of RL and possibly his wife and sons whose views might not/possibly won't in the future match his.
Whilst Sinfield has his views, he also loves this club and the sport and turning this down would do a disservice to both.....and that's not his style at all.
If I was in the position to achieve an MBE I actually wouldn't be too bothered to accept it and I don't even share the same views politically as Sinfield. But I'm pretty sure my parents would be devastated if I turned it down so I would go ahead and accept it.
Whilst this award is for Sinfield alone in name, it can be viewed as a recognition of what the whole club has achieved in the last 10 years.'"
But from what I know whilst your parents would be delighted Kevin Sinfields may not!

The general point was about it being about more than the person. Maybe not his parents in his particular circumstance, but possibly wife, friends, teammates, coaches, Leeds and RL fans.

| I wonder if this warrants a 'special, limited edition' Rhinos shirt being made and sold..?
We've only had 4 (that I can think of) in the last year, and none for a week now. I look forward to seeing the 'MBE' top soon!

| Wire fan here, and I am genuinely surprised no-one has commented that Kevin actually deserved a higher honour. I know the "Sir Kev" thing is a bit of a joke, but I think it's disappinting that he was not given something better. I hold him in very high regard and present him to my 10 year old son as a fine example of decency, humility and dedication, and in a sport where there are lots of youngsters badly in need of role models I think he is truly exemplary. Sadly the honours system is such a joke that people get honoured for "services to sport" based really on their achievements and results rather than anything they might have ever done for the wider reputation good and image of their sport that might not coincide with their own self-interest - the two are not the same thing. Compared to other sporting knights purportedly honoured for their services to sport - Alex Ferguson (forever whinging about referees and petulantly refusing press commitments) and Bradley Wiggins (at public loggerheads with another British Tour de France winner) - Sinfield's bearing and conduct is superior. To me the grant of a bottom-rung honour to him actually suggests some box-ticking "recognition" given to rugby league rather than a genuine appreciation of the extent of his character and contribution to sport.

Yeh I believe David Elleray a former football referee got an MBE too for services to his sport, kinda sums it up the level RL is at in the country.
If Steven Gerrard had led Liverpool to 6 titles he'd definitely become a Sir.
Think you also summed up brilliantly why Sinfield is held in such high regard, because of the classier way he conducts himself compared to many modern sports individuals. Remember Rooney bit*hing about England fans booing in the last WC after we played out a dreadful 0-0 with Algeria.
