| Quote JerryChicken="JerryChicken"The last time I was in a Weatherspoons the group I was with sent a total of twelve pints back to the bar because they were "off" (for want of a better word), it doesn't help that one of the group was employed in the labs of a large brewery for 35 years so knows what he is talking about but the bar staff couldn't understand the nature of the complaint and kept pouring replacement pints from the same pump - so they got sent back too.
Eventually they bought lager, supped it and we left.
I don't know how true the urban myth is that Weatherspoons sell cheap "ale" because its close to its sell-by date and they buy it in cheaper because of that, but the beer they were serving that night had not been kept well at all and the staff just didn't understand that.'"
I won't say where, but one of the bar staff I encountered recently couldn't serve me alcohol because they were under-age! Work that one out.

| I don't drink enough these days to make a big enough saving to justify going in any of the Wetherspoons within 20 miles of where I live.
That said, there is a corner of my brain that still thinks a pint costs £2 and gets upset when it's over 3.

| If you had more than a passing aquaintance with these establishments, you would know that it is spelt "Wetherspoons" (no a).
There are seven or more branches in Leeds alone and they have a very high turnover of beer so it doesn't get chance to go off.
As an ex-publican I advise that though it is possible to get a bad pint in any pub, the staff can always offer several alternatives - most Wetherspoons have at least 5 different bitters on at any one time. (They encourage you to taste themfirst in shot glasses)
The low prices enjoyed derive from huge buying power with over 900 (yes 900!) pubs throughout the country. This is a measure of their success!

Just a point regarding costs - all the money saved by drinking in outlets with cheap beer can go towards the cost of your season ticket (or gate money) - good for the Rhinos in the end!
It's a matter of common sense. Speaking as a pensioner without money to burn, these pubs are the only ones i which I personally can afford to drink.

With reference to CAMRA, yes I have a beard - (they're popular these days) and I wear sandals on the beach if and when I can afford a holiday.
Reason for joining is again a matter of economics -
Annual Membership (over-60s) = £18.50
Saving via beer vouchers = £20 - Simples! Another thirty bob to go towards my ticket!

Being unable to drink alcohol in any more than tiny quantities you could describe me as not having any more than a passing acquaintance (correct spelling) with the brand.
The branch that I mentioned was not in Leeds and if my mate who has worked in the labs of two of our regions largest brewers since he was 16 years old (now 57) and who left the business just one grade beneath his master brewers certificate (notoriously hard to achieve) says a pint is "off" then I'd go along with his recommendation and not that of a bar staff who just shrugs his shoulders and then pours another pint of the same from the same pump.
Twelve pints they sent back that night and no-one thought to send the manager across for a conversation.
My coke was just fine though, never had a bad pint.

Some people push it up their nose, seems like a strange thing to do to me, I pour it down my throat by the pint. In the 1960s it was popular around the Uni campus to wear t-shirts with a "Legalize Coke" logo which I always found rather strange because my mother never had any problems buying it in Asda in sufficient quantities for me.
