To me it's quite clear that Slater is trying to pacify the guy and explain that he's not cue jumping but just wanting to get his coat back.

The guys over reaction to Slater barely touching him was the cause of the incident in my opinion.

I can't think of a single person who wouldn't do the same thing in Slaters position.
