Quote: William Eve "The answer to the OP's question is neither.
Any reliable compass would indicate...
1) The South Stand is the South by West (SbW) Stand.
2) The North Stand is the North by East (NbE) Stand.
3) The Western Terrace is the West by North (WbN) Terrace.
4) The Carnegie Stand is East by South (EbS)
Anyone stood watching the game in the South by West Stand would have to turn 11.25 degrees west in order to be stood south and be north facing.
I might occupy the SbW Stand at Headingley on the 8th of November to get a much better view of SBW.'"
Given there is a variation of just over three degrees from mag north to true north in an easterly direction your calculations comparing a point on one and a point on the other are an attempt to convince us that the distance between those two points is bigger than it actually is. Not unusual though that is it?
Mag to Grid get rid and all that.
