| what are we discussing here?
Personality in the sense that he obviously isn't a man who thinks deeply about his feelings, his philosophy of the game of rugby league, his players feelings and how to best motivate them in times of duress, how to handle the press he receives both good and bad, the strength of his convictions and his belief in himself and his team when everyone else doubted their ability to achieve anything?
Or personality in terms of not having a polished media savvy veneer to present to the press, replete with throw away soundbites and casual banter?

It'll be interesting to see how the NZ Warriors fare in the NRL now that McClennan is the coach.'"
With the help of dad too, it would seem.
So according to that blog Bluey was serving an apprenticeship while he was coaching Leeds, and now he has been elevated to the status of rookie coach.Very nice

| Another interesting link to Leeds in that article....Dean Bell involved in youth development at Warriors...the same guy that brought so many of today's SL champions through the youth system at Leeds.

Did he?
Bell packed up at the end of the 1999 season to move into a similar role with Wigan. At that time Sinfield and I think JJB had already made their first grade debuts, while McGuire and Burrow were still at least 18 months away from breaking into the first team squad.
Bell may well have put structures in place that served the club well, but I'm not sure he can take too much credit for the development of young players in his two years in a youth role at Leeds.

Your point duly acknowledged. Bell nevertheless takes a lot of the credit for putting those systems in place.
It's worth remembering that Sinfield broke through at a very young age. Some of the others may have taken longer to get into the first team, and I may be wrong, but I'd have thought many of them would have been there as juniors under Bell.

1883.jpg Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

Honestly Id like to be proved wrong.
Ive never heard him in person so cant comment on that. My view is based on seeing his TV interviews and reading the written word of his interviews (think this is in danger of turning into a disclaimer).
On that basis he fails to engage the audience, his tone is monotone and his eyes are fixed on the floor. Im no media trainer but he comes across lacking any umph.
Not disputing what he has got out of the players, more in the scond half of the season and I clearly said he should recieve recognition for that.
But personality... sorry, Ive never seen it.'"
You have just described Tony Smith.
