| Quote BaldRick="BaldRick"Keeps coming back this thread don't it .
Mount Pleasant was ermmm..
If you go up the steep hill at the back of Wickes to the Swinnow , Mount Pleasant was right at the top on the inside of the bend . It led to the edge of Parkspring( ? ) school field . I believe the houses were flattened around 1970 .'"
That's where I used to take my dog to do it's business back in the late 70s! (thought I'd share that....).
I moved up t'Swinnow as a nipper in 66 (from <cough> Hunslet) so probably too young to remember the houses being there.

| Quote El Barbudo="El Barbudo"Temple Mills (Holbeck) gets a mention in yersterday's Guardian.
It's just been allowed to rot since Kay's moved away.
Possibly deliberately to allow eventual demolition?'"
Its problem is its location.
Its a prominent building and an important heritage building, but its not a city centre building where a hotelier would be interested and you can't really think of any other use for it other than warehousing where it would be much cheaper to just knock it down and build a modern facility rather than repair it (let alone maintain it in future).
Has anyone ever been inside, its very grand from the outside (built as an Egyptian temple ???) but once through the door is it then just bog standard Victorian mill ?
You can't see any other future for it than demolition especially as its surrounds are probably due for flattening too.

Have just been talking about that picture , and figured it is around 50 years old . Bert and Eva are the parents . The rest of the people in the picture are their children .
As I have been asked to name them I will give it a go .
Back row Peter , Alan , Robert , Shiela , Brian , Florence Eva , Geoffrey , Herbert , Pauline , John , Maurice , Evelyn .
The six smaller kids in order of height are Stephen , Frank (Billy) , Elaine , Nigel , Derek , Trevor .
I think I got them all . Anyone on here From the Hawksworth Estate will probably be able to correct me on any I might have got wrong .

From 1836 to 1840.
Is he from The Old Testament?
There was a feature on it on look North, T'other night.
Based on the Temple of Horus. When it was built it was the world's largest room at over two acres. It was originally a flax mill and to maintain a warm damp atmosphere the roof was grassed and sheep were kept on it to trim the grass!
It's a fantastic and very unique building and would be a huge shame for Leeds to lose one of it's industrial stars.

I meant the restoration. I seem to remember they did some restoration work, or I may be wrong!

| Had a look on the google earth walkabout thing at Temple Mills . As you 'walk' past it scaffolding suddenly appears where a couple of paces earlier there was none . Walk on by , turn around , and scaffolding has disappeared .
And check out the Aston parked on double yellows next to the entrance to a cheapo carpark .

Up until the credit crunch, that area was enjoying a bit of a modest mini-boom and old buildings were being tidied up for alternative uses. (Couple of nice pubs, apartments (of course), offices etc.).
Now, however ... well ....
