I kind of agree with you to some extent - I wasn't trying to defend the play-offs, it's what we have. I was offering a different perspective to how they should be looked at.
Coaches will be aiming to peak at the end of the regular rounds so they are better prepared for the play-offs and to a lesser extent the actual league position isn't necessarily that important. A top 4 finish will do.
If more emphasis/reward were to be put on actually winning the league it would change the whole dynamic of they way coaches and players approach their league position.
