Wigan's average attendance for their season in Division 2 (1980/81) is quoted as 4,693 in the 1st edition of the Rothmans Rugby League Yearbook. That was an increase of 28 on their relegation season.
They were the 2nd best supported club in the 2nd Division that year behind Fulham in their debut season who returned an average of 6,096 - a figure that would have placed them 4th in the RL behind Hull (11,711), Hull KR (8,904) and marginally behind Bradford N (6,105) but ahead of next in line Leeds (5,934)
