| Quote SaintsFan="SaintsFan"Leeds have been the biggest whingers in Superleague for the last three or four seasons, regardless of the referee and particularly when losing. Leeds showed a lot of indiscipline last night, in their ball handling and in their attitude. If they get both those factors sorted then they may have a chance this season.'" | Quote Andy R="Andy R"I thought he got everything spot on in the first 15 mins including the hall and Ali knock ons which despite being blatant and repeatedly shown in slow motion were too difficult for the majority of the ss to understand. I then thought he got a but whistle happy and that we didn't really get the rub of the green. [iThe strip on smith was as poor a decision as I've seen in a long time[/i. They needed no help to beat us and I thought they got more in their favour than we did. There was a point in the 2nd half where he gave us a scrum on halfway where no one had a clue what had been given! He's still the worst ref in SL IMO based on the year as a whole'"
I'm afraid not. In such a mêlée on the line Wire defence is bound to stand firm in case of a 'play-on' call. The tackle looked complete but on the spot who knows? Hodgson and others at that point are entitled to block Smith who clearly moved forward off the mark ( he was over the try line! ) and was shoving Hodgson away when the ball came loose in the struggle. No way was that a simple 'strip'.

| Quote Fantastic Mr Cat="Fantastic Mr Cat"TBH thats somethign we're doing really really well this year, i never noticed previously how bad we were at that under cullen i dont know whether its a general coaching thing or hodgson marshalling better from FB but we're spot on with that this year.
Also, as cull has pointed out on boots n all, we've got the technique now on our goal line, or within our 10m' only using one marker, which gives us an extra man in the line, i've not seen any other team doing this but its a big help to our goal line defence.'"
I have seen Leeds do the same thing this year as well. I think Cullen mentioned it on boots n all as well on the same show. Not something I have seen us do regulary but it generally seems to be mcshane at marker from memory when we do it

| Quote tonys_triumphs="tonys_triumphs"Good call ross,Some of these refs need to take a leaf out of the great bill harrigans book,on all aspects of rules and be more in control of the game!
To be fair to warrington, this sort of luck has been due for 10 years as week in week out we have found ourselves being the ones that have been getting robbed.
Nice to see other teams getting a share of the bad luck just like we have had in the past years.'"
Some would call it 'luck' or getting robbed. I would call it the fact you had coaches like Cullen and Lowes and then got Tony Smith. Thats when your luck turned imo.

| The key thing to note from the referee standpoint last night, was the penalty he gave against JJB which made it 20-6 to Warrington, we never recovered psychologically from that imo.

| I thought he murdered you last night. Was looking forward to a good game last night and was spoiled by a terrible official.

There were Warrington hand(s) tugging at the ball and, as Smith pulled it back, the ball spun out from his grasp.
Not a "simple strip", true ... but a strip nonetheless.
That's the way I saw it on the replay.
As with many others on the boards today, I'm not blaming Childs for Leeds losing but I do think he made a bad performance look even worse.
It's a long time since I've been so frustrated with a ref's decisions that he did make and others that he didn't.

Surely is should of been a penalty too Wire, because Smith moved off the mark as someone has said he ended up over the try line.
And the try Leeds scored was a knock on

But you've missed out the fact that Smith by that time had taken 2 steps forward and was well off the mark. Had he managed to play the ball he was well over the Wire tryline.

You have exaggerated massively here, Smith was in the process of taking one step forward (and it was a step that was part of him getting up) whilst Hodgson had his hands all over the ball. Smith could easily have played the ball where his standing foot was (behind the line) rather than where his striding foot was(in front of the line). However it should never, and could never have got that far. As soon as Hodgson kept his hands on the ball after the call of held its a penalty for interference, for him to then compound that offence by stripping the ball after Smith had stood up was a penalty for interference or for stripping the ball, take your pick.
That decision, and the decision to punish JJB having been hit with a high tackle and with Morley's arm around his neck was frankly an embarrassing decision. It was very very poor refereering.
The question I would ask is what James Child has done to deserve such a game. What did Stuart Cummins see recently that meant he though Child had earned the opportunity refereeing a game at the top of SL when he has struggled so embarrassingly previously. Sticking with Child when he is so clearly out of his depth isnt good for the game, and isnt good for Child.
