Always wondered why more famous bands have not originated from Leeds....apart from Wedding Present, Kaiser Chiefs and Pigeon Detectives (oh ! and Soft Cell of course)...who else is there ?
So many more from Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow. Why ?

A distinct lack of live music venues throughout the 60s and 70s saw off that era, very few small venues for local bands to kick start in and the only large venues for touring bands being the Queens Hall (probably the worst music venue for acoustics in the country) and the Town Hall - both of which had a 96db limit slapped on them in the early 70s thus writing them off for any band worth its entrance money.
If you wanted to see a decent band in that era you went to the Uni refectory or another city, it was like Footloose before that awful film was even thought of.
