| Quote Marky G="Marky G"i think Abbott Out means, is the collision is alot faster in 2010 and i would agree with that theory, i think 99 team would get bullied out of it in the forwards these days - remember Jamie Mathiou was part of that squad'"
You may want to have a think about the 99 pack, or ask someone who saw them. Fleary, Farrell, MCDermott, Morley, Newton., Glanville.
Just who would be bullying them?

| The only fundamental change I've seen in the game is when the scrum on the 6th tackle was dropped in 1983. That reduced the importance of scrums massively as there were far fewer, and they gradually became less and less contested. Very quickly we saw the demise of the roly poly openside prop (Diclinson and Pitchfoprd at Leeds being replaed by the Rayne twins for example, who previously had been mobile second rowers) and hookers who could barely move but win the scrum. Very few of the old-style front-rowers from pre-83 would make it today. But then again today's 'props' would get smashed in the scrums (quite literally I suspect) were they sent back in time.
Otherwise although the game's changed a bit - more intense, better defence etc - I suspect any good player before and since then would have looked similar in either era.

I don't know.
Would the squad of 1918 cope?
It's about as relevant.

No because Human genetics have evolved since then. Unfortunately since 1999 the human genetics have devolved but still better than what was around in 1918.

Hate to disappoint you Damo, but genetics don't evolve that fast, if it did then none of us would have a coccyx or an appendix anymore.
Given that your average 20 year old from 1918 had just fought through the most bloody war since mankind invented war, nevertheless would be extremely fit, would eat a diet of mainly fresh food, would have very few chemicals, preservatives and e-numbers in that food, had never heard of McDonalds let alone lived on a constant diet of them and regarded sugar as a luxury, your average 20 year old in 1918 would have a very demanding manual job that kept him fit and active for at least a ten hour shift six times a week - now go away and compare to yourself.

There was someone like me living around 1918.
Watched the film Chaplin a while back and I can remember a bitter army veteran having a go at Charlie for not participating in the war. Read his book and many injured during the war thanked Charlie for his work because laughter at what Chaplin did on screen swayed the attention away from the pain of an open wound.
I’m doing a similar service today. People watch my videos thinking that life could always be so much worse!
