| Interesting question posed but unanswered on Boots 'N All last night, Ian Proctor can't have been in the building.
=#FF0000When was the last time the previous year's Grand Finalists both lost their round 1 fixtures?
The simple answer is that it's never happened before in the SL Era.
Out of the eleven seasons (1999-2009) where it could have potentially occurred previously, on four of those the previous year's Finalists met in Round 1. In the other seven both won on three, three were split and one was a loss and a draw.
So 2007 was close, with St Helens losing at home to Harlequins and Hull drawing at home to Les Catalans. (Like Leeds in 2010 St Helens already had a win on the board, before losing in round 1, with a fixture brought forward to accommodate the WCC.)
