whether or not a crime has been committed here is up to the police and the courts to persue... if guilty I would support the full force of the law.... in the case of innocence the secondary question should be asked...


the secondary question is "did these players allow themselves to be put in a position where they could be accused"... these are privilaged young men who play sport for money... when they are on trips like this they are not just representing themselves... they represent the club, the town, the supporters, the management, their families (wives and children), and on a wider scale they represent the game and all of the people involved in the game as fans and sponsors. It just doesn't take into account the thought processes of your average professional rugby player - that is, a big daft lad who was only good at sports at school.

When you approach it from that angle it all makes perfect sense.

I was in a situation in the 80s at a rugby do over in Oldham when a few of us had an inkling a mat who had pulled a local was round the back pleasuring her. So we went round, sure enough he was; so we did what lads do - jumped around cheering & laughing. Later, back in the club after we had left & the story was doing the rounds, she claimed she had been raped. It never went any further but the next 2 weeks were among the worst of my life, every time the phone rang I was terrified, I lost a stone in weight.

I am also very close to someone who was sexually abused who never had the confidence or support to take it further. It has destroyed large parts of her life.

These are the 2 extremes that need considering when posting 'humorous' messages.
