I'd agree with that to a point. You can get some to drawer curries at the cheapest establishments and the same goes for other cuisines too. I don't eat at posh places enough to know much about them but mid-range stuff can often be a dissapointment - all pre-cooked and reheated crap.

I'd also say cheap food is by far the best in terms of what you cook yourself. Especially with meat - though I'm thinking more of the cheaper cuts rather than the cheapest butchers.

I have to admit that if we're having a cheap curry out of a jar I invariably have a sliced banana with it.

My initial response to this wasn't a good one, but having had a few minutes to consider it I might give it a try.

Which curry out of jar would you recommend? Would imagine a stronger one may not compliment the banana as much?

You'll find Thai and Malay curries use a lot of fruit, particularly pineapple and plantain, if you've never tried fruit in a chilli and coconut based sauce then you've never lived ...

Not sure what makes we've had but it is generally the milder curries so the kids will eat them too.

Think of it like a condiment rather than an ingredient - I tend to have that as well as some raita, some chilli sauce and just have a bit in the same way as you might have a pickle or chutney.
