"Necessity is the mother of invention" when Hetherington took over the club had no money and as a result they had little option but to develop the young players.
Where Hetherington should be applauded was selling the vision - this kept the crowds coming as the saw a glimpse of what might be and he gave them a crop of young players with whom the crowd could connect with.
He also brought in Graham Murray - a masterstroke - Smith get - rightly lots of plaudits - but it was Murray that really got the ball rolling.
Like him or not, agree with him or not he eventually reached the holy grail - it took eight years mind you - but he got there. The club is much the stronger for his stewardship that is for sure
