| I was thinking about this last night, after the game (and overtaking the Workington coaches heading back up the A1).
Is the fate of the Challenge Cup sealed, with the introduction of the Franchise system in 2009 ?
Given that promotion and relegation as we know it will end then, one possible outcome of that is that many of the smaller clubs will become 'feeders' for the big teams (just look at the relationships that Leeds have built with York and more recently Featherstone ?). These teams will probably have most of the younger players undergoing development (or players seeing out the last few years of their careers) for their SL team 'masters', possibly have coaching staff from those teams and more than likely and open gangway between the clubs, just as they are in Australia.
With a 12 or 14 team top league and another 20 - 30 professional clubs under the wing of senior teams, the level playing field or all clubs being 'equal' (some are more equal than others these days), the concept of the Challenge Cup evaporates. Can you see an SL Club, playing what effectively is the Academy or Reserve team of another SL club regardless of the name (or history) of the competition ?

Keep smiling. It makes people wonder what you're up to.
Borrow money from pessimists. They don't expect it back.
Everyone has a photographic memory, some just don't have film!
The sooner you fall behind the more time you'll have to catch up.
The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

So Les Cats winning is because of the cup? They beat Salford 3 weeks before the game against Saints and ran the Saints team close over the easter weekend earlier in the season having played and having to travel to France just like St Helens so just because they won (oh the shock of them winning!!) that is another reason to scrap the cup?

| Facts my good fellow mere facts
Saying that, Wigans domination of the cup way back when wasn't any good for the game either, if the RFL further developed NL teams and helped them all go full time and got the standard up to a low level SL team - Hudds for example - then the cup would be a more competitive altho not likely to throw up many sides from NL1 2 and beyond winning it, it sure would improve it
Develop the teams to improve the cup don't just rid RL of what is the most Historic cup in the sport

| Quote: oldlee-quin "how about the SL sides can only score against NL2 opposition upto 10 meters either side of the posts or under them(thus reducing the width of the tryline) and are not allowed to convert a try.
and against NL 1 opposition are not allowed to score in the 10 meter area from the touchline in(on each side of the pitch) thus reducing the width of the tryline by 20meters in total conversions are allowed'"
Make the SL team wear those bicycle cranks a la 'Its A Knockout'
