Quote Him="Him"I think it’s great the women’s team and the women’s game is getting more exposure. Any exposure for RL is good and it’s surely a way of getting lots more people participating and more closely tied to the sport including sponsors and commercial partners.
It was great to see the commitment, effort and passion from both sides in the game.
However I don’t think we should go overboard on labelling it as high skill levels. It’s not currently. That’s not being denigrating to the women, not at all, they’re amateurs. However we shouldn’t patronise them either by pretending the skill level is higher than it currently is. Comments such as they’re the best kicker in the club and the club could learn from them are frankly nonsense. It’s akin to a fan muttering “I can do better than that” at a game but actually meaning it. There’s nothing at all wrong with the skill levels being where they are because they’re amateur but that doesn’t mean they’re high. With the increased focus and effort from clubs and the sport as a whole I’m sure the quality will quickly increase.
Again this is not criticism of the women’s game or of any of the players, it’s just I’ve seen lots of comments on here and on social media saying how high the quality is and I disagree on that. It’s high for amateur players, it’s not high full stop.'"
The same can be said currently for the mens SL.
