| What about a prediction for the next few seasons instead?
This season, a poor finish somewhere around 10th (if we're lucky) culminating with excuses from the club that Millward inherited this team, give him a few seasons to get his own players in etc. A few seasons later with no improvement since the board only allows to bring in below standard to replace below standard, Millward moves on and in comes a new coach and the whole process starts again. No wonder you'd rather stop in NL1 mate.
I enjoyed my days in NL1 but wouldn't want it permanent. I'd expect we should win every game and so would lose that underdog feel you get when you turn over the big boys. I'd also end up getting bored if we did win all the time in a league that pretty much meant nothing (no offence intended). That said, if we were in NL1 I would have to settle for second place at best judging by yesterdays performance.
Well done Fev by the way, fantastic effort from everyone involved at your end. Thoroughly deserved that win and showed up my club massively. I can only hope that something good comes from this.

No offence taken mate you make some sound points...My real gripe is with the people at RFL that have killed major sections of our game turning it into a farce in some cases. I must admit though when you signed Basil I thought he would have done a bit better I had you down as a top 8 side this year with him in charge..

When will someone man up and ban this clown? Every post he makes is filled with personal insults, designed to circumvent the swear filter and adds absolutely nothing to the conversation.
Seriously - the licence he's given on here is embarassing.

| Most of the moderators can't be bothered since a lot of the Cas fans don't come on here any more and Wakefield fans seem to be more prevalent, particularly the trolls.
Back on topic, anyway.
No, I don't think our season was over. I was gutted last year when we started the season really well and got to the Semis of the cup - only to lose out on both.
As I put on t'other forum, I'd rather get knocked out by Fev if it meant making the top eight. We have had a very tough start and our coach missing for a few weeks on compassionate leave meant the players lost their guidance - the performances replicated that.
To an extent, I still feel we are bearing the burden of TM's legacy both in attack and in defence (and also previous recruitment). In this situation, Millward has had to do the best with what he has and I do genuinely believe that Years 2/3 of the licensing will be significantly better.
As for this season, we still have a lot of winnable games - for instance we're yet to place Widnes still - and so the season is not lost.
My expectation for this season was outside the play-offs. I don't change my view that that will be the case but top eight is not yet gone.

| Thank God For Fully putting a thread back on track
First and foremost Featherstone deserved the win, They were more commited and seemed to want it more, We looked like the old cliche of a 'big ' team thinking all we had to do was turn up to win ,Well we didnt ,Is that the end of our season ? IMHO NO as i saw enough in the last couple of league games to suggest we can compete and we should be able to kick on and put this defeat behind us.
Good Luck to Fev in the next round

I watch a lot of rugby league(Amatuer and Pro) for the product on the field and the size of the crowd,or the condition of the ground are largely irrelevant to me its about the players and the passion and the game.
Yesterday we saw a SL side go out to a lower league team,we saw Widnes run Saints very close so for me there is a big disconnect in the we are superior SL argument. No PR nothing to play for in a lot of cases just leaves me feeling the SL is sterile.
The Rugby League world yesterday were able to see how close the gap between SL and the Championship really is. Our guys hold down jobs and are part time the Cas team are full time pro's. So I guess cappers we need to be careful what we wish for.'"

| If there is anything to be said for the play off system, it is that there is still plenty to play for.
Usually the team that finishes eighth has lost as many games as it has won, so a bit of decent form could see anyone challenge still.

Replace references to Cas with references to WTW and most of that would read true; we're in almost identical positions in terms of transitional seasons and the need to re-build a squad, although you've retained more players than we have.
I had hoped that we would be troubling the 8 this season but expected to finish outside; my expectations remain unchanged.
I guess for both teams, like it or not, off-field and backroom issues are more important this season than what happens on the pitch.

| Wow, the last few posts are some of the most sensible I've read on here!
Fev deserved their victory n good luck to them in the next round.
Yesterday's performance aside, I think things have been going in the right direction since Millward's return.
Pre season I thought we'd finish just outside the playoffs and still think that's the case but a bit of luck n a decent run could yet see us challenge for 8th. I'd rather see us finish with a flourish than limp to the end of the season like last year.
Also agree with Brenk that off field matters are more important than on-field over this n probably next couple of seasons.

| No, the season isn't over because there are still a number of games left.
Playoffs? Not likely, with a poor coach and an even worse squad anything above 10th would be an achievement.

| I personally really enjoyed the game even if Cas did lose. What an exciting advert for Rugby League.
Think about it, if Cas, Fev and Wakey were all in the Championship it could get a lot more exposure and you could see some big crowds.

Aha, we're already getting the excuse in, it didn't take long.

How many times can we use this excuse Fully? Every coach we've had since 2004, this has been used in their defence. One minute we look at our squad and say it's improving on last season, but then when we get rolled over by the big guns easily, or we lose again to a part time team in the CC again and we change our minds and decide to give the coach excuses to make us feel better about ourselves. Again, no offence intended to Fev but how many of their team would anyone choose to replace any of our team before yesterday? Yet again we were totally out played, out enthused, out thought and out coached by a part time outfit. This is and will be the highlight of the majority of those Fev players careers, that is including play off wins and the rest. AS a so called SL club we shouldn't even be talking about this today. As a SL club we should have comfortably beaten Fev with not too much of a fuss. As the rest of the CC results start to filter in today the rest of the SL clubs are doing the business against part timers while we're sat here makng up excuses and hoping that next year or the year after we get it right. We're claiming that what happens on the field isn't important and it's what happens off it that counts. What a crock of crap. We keep saying the same things this last ten years and NOTHING is changing, same crap just a different year.
It's days like yesterday that make me sit here and think that maybe Calder RLFC should have happened all those years ago. Wakey are as bad as us and there's no chance of Fev being given the nod for SL. Someone frigging shoot me!
Hopefully no Fev fans will take any of this the wrong way. I have massive respect for the club and fans and you fully deserved the win yesterday.

Non taken here marshman,
I actually agree with most of what you say. I went to yesterdays game with only one expectation and that was that my team would put 100% effort in for the fans against Super League Opposition and not make it easy for Cas.
I thought Cas would win by 20 plus, because on paper that is what should have happened. I would have stayed and applauded my team had they lost as long as had put the effort in.

Had I been in your shoes that's what I'd have expected mate. Even though we're in SL that's all I ever expect. A good effort from all involved and to look like a SL side.
On the way to the game yesterday I was trying to explain to my lad, who'd never witnessed a Cas v Fev derby game before, what it was all about. I tried to give him a run down of histories, events and all the rest. He knows what a derby game is about but just not so much this one. He asked why some Fev fans absolutley hate Cas with a passion. I explained it wasn't all Fev fans and to most it is just a genuinley good old fashioned derby hatred and nothing sinister. I then went on to explain how Fev were once a top side, how they'd been dumped out of top flight RL and that some Fev fans still are a bit bitter at Cas seeing us as being in their place. Anyway, right or wrong whatever ones opinion on it all that's not quite what I'm aiming at. What is even more annoying to me and probably to some Fev fans is that on yesterdays display, we showed to the whole of RL that we've done very little to justify our place in the top flight. No wonder so many Fev fans feel so aggrieved and aim their anger at Cas. Had they been in SL instead of us they could also have achieved what little we have. I'm finding it hard to justify my teams place in SL when everything I see and hear about our club is simply not good enough.
