| Stick with Millward ok he had a good side at Saints to start with but also look at what he did for Leigh do you think Ellis would have come to play for him if he was a horid bloke. You have had a few players who thought they could go on the lash and still be full time pro players. Those days of players going on the lash round town have gone and Millward will not stand for it.He wants the players to be at the top of the fitness list and giving everything surely thats whats best for your club.

Richard Wright - Ruining Castleford RLFC since 2000: |
|
| I thought it was a bad appointment at the time, and nothing I have seen so far this season has changed my opinion. There were obvious issues with our defence, which he promised to address, and our defence has got worse. He got rid of a player who did a reasonable job for us last year without even trying to mend the relationship with him, and we have had our best 2 players wanting to leave the club.
I'm sick of people see wait for next year, we start saying it earlier and earlier every season, we need a coach capable of delivering promises in the season we are playing in, rather than making hollow promises for the following.
I'd personally get shut now, and let Danny look after the team til the end of the season.

| Quote: tigerman49 "The players are paid employees of Castleford Tigers and as such are paid to do a job of work just the same as someone working in a factory. If the workers on a production line do not do their jobs properly you don't sack the manager you sack the workers responsible. This is the situation at the moment with the players, some are not doing what they are being paid for, Ian Millward doesn't train them not to tackle or not to go for a 50/50 loose ball or waste possession or simply not to bother trying so he can hardly be held responsible for the last 2 pathetic showings. This has to be the fault of the players on the pitch who have shown a complete lack of respect for the people who are helping to pay their wages, namely us the supporters. Let's wait and see what Millward and Steve Ferres accomplish next season when they are totally responsible for the endeavours on and off the pitch, we are all aware that the club has not been run to the best of it's ability for years so let's get behind the new regime.'"
if you employ a new manager and production falls you get shut pretty quick

| I would have given him a chance into next season...until he selected Johnston (our small, reserve scrum half) at full back on Sunday.
I understand its been hard for the Millward family this year but the above selection defied logic for me, he has lost it... we could very well conceed 50+ points in the rest of the remaining games (teams fighting for playoff places)...how can the club sell next season to supporters when the coach makes selections like that?.

| Wigan Warriors: played: 12 won: 3 lost: 9
North Queensland Cowboys: played: 14 won: 2 lost: 12
Castleford Tigers: played: 25 won: 6 lost: 19 (includes lower league opposition in Featherstone)
So his last 3 jobs with a professional club gives him a spectacular 51 games played with 11 wins and 40 losses...it isn't going to get better keeping the clown around for another season.

| He has been absolute awful and should go. BUT
Remember how good, enthusiastic and professional we looked in that first game of the season against Salford? We were a completely different team who were organised, fantastic in defence (to say how bad the conditions were) and gave away a fraction of the penalties we have done in usual games.
I believe that eventually he'll come good and i hope he does. When has anyone in any sport made a difference in one season? They haven't. It takes years to build a team so we should give him at least one more season.

| Of all of the people who have said they wish to keep Millward on I can't see any actual reasoning for this beyond he will be better next year. This may well be the case as he will have a different group of players, however I believe we should judge him on what he has done rather than what we hope he will do.
Millward has been at the club for almost a year and I can't really see any positive impact he has made in any aspect of the on field performance or the off field perception of the club. On the field he vowed to improve our defence and said he was going to change the way we attacked, well our defence has been worse than ever and Millward himself has said our attack has looked boring at times. Off the field people talk of him cleaning up the days of going out on the lash, well since he took over we had the Owen incident over Christmas and the Chase incident, it would be impossible to say Millward is directly responsible for these incidents but if it was his agenda to introduce discipline then he's hardly been successful there.
There has also been the Mathers issue there have been people who have defended Millward on this but I think its clear that one of our biggest rivals have benefited greatly while we have suffered from the way the situation has played out, while also the way that the story was reported in the media hardly made our club look good.
One thing that has annoyed me is that at various times this year Millward has deflected some of the blame for our bad performances to the previous coaching saying we slip back into bad old habits of the previous years at times, however as far as above previous years bad habits are a vast improvement on this years habits, the coach should really be taking some of the blame for this other coaches have and do but Millward seems to have quite an ego.
Actually to be fair to Millward I've just thought of a positive for Millward, signing our best young players to long term deals was a very good move.

Kyle, I appreciate the performance at Salford was a good one but if anything the conditions made defending and not conceding penalties easier, because of the conditions there was less ball movement meaning defending is easier and also meaning less breaks and so no one team being on the back foot which is when the penalties are often conceded. We have had very good performances and many more of them in previous seasons we started the 2011 season with a similar performance in similar conditions at home to Huddersfield.

The point wasn't who we played in our first game of 2011, the Huddersfield game was at the start of the year, the point was it wasn't as if the Salford game was unlike anything we'd done before.

Let's hope Millward is given several hundred £million to do the same then.

Don't be silly. You said that no one in sport had had instant success....I was merely proving you wrong.

| I have to believe that in the long term Basil is a good appointment, where he has had TIME he has performed.
I think clubs are far too quick to pull the trigger, to the detriment of longer term planning. I am hesitent to mention Scumchester United, but they were widely accepted to be on the brink of sacking their bloke, but they kept their powder dry and let him do what they appointed him to do, build a playing staff for tomorrow and onwards, not just improve the on field today.
You either back a manager to execute a plan or you don't but you can't let your enthusiasm wane in the infancy.
As I said, I have to believe that; the alternative is that everyone involved with Ian's appointment and now his ongoing employment is a moron and statistically that is unlikely.
