Depends where the stadium was if it was in wakey i i dont think even half the cas fans would still attend (none of the people i go to matches with would) and i think there reverse would be true for wakey fans. You could try putting it slap bang in the middle, but that would mean it was a fair distance from both population centres which would lose both teams some fans.

Whats more sky money is the primary means most clubs use to fund there squad so clubs have to spend most of it on players, otherwise (until last year) you got relegated and therefore lost access to said sky money. As for the teams in the nls that have built new stadia they should be applauded, but how many of them did it without local council funds? leigh didnt, widnes didnt, fax have had there stadia finished off by the council etc if wakey council were as helpfully as the council in these places then both us and wakey would probabley already be in shiny new stadia.'"
As you say, Sky money generally goes into the players pot and is more or less the difference between a Superleague squad and an National League squad, the stadium has to be funded from other areas.
As the vast majority of Superleague clubs don't actually make a profit, funding a stadium project really is an area where either third parties have to be brought in to invest or assets have to be sold, then such as our ground comes into play. That's one area at least where we have an advantage over a number of other clubs, as most don't own their ground, but then some of them have had the luxury of their local council building them a new facility.

Point taken and very well made, but you can see how frustrated some championship teams get when there stadia in some cases are better than super league clubs. I think the RFL have turned this into a complete farce they introduced the franchise system to stop clubs making rash quick fix decisions, but in actual fact it is having the opposite effect on clubs desperate to either get in or stay in super league. The letter sent out is an eg. Both Cas and Wakey will do anything to make sure there grounds are up quickly even making bad long term decisions. One simple answer to all this nonsense is 2 full time divisions with P+R that way all the clubs with ambitions can be accomodated not just the select few Lewis and Woods want

I really can understand your frustration and the frustration of other championship fans, and although i can see the benefit of franchising (for instance the number of youngsters playing in sl this year has been impressive and looks set to increase) the idea of a closed shop where you are discriminated against due to your post code, does not sit east with me, for me franchising will only be ultimatley succesful if it puts rl in the position where it is strong enough to reintroduce p and r (ie a fulltime 2nd tier, enough money to give parachute payments etc). I really do hope that all rl clubs who are pursuing new stadia whether they are in the championships or sl get there new stadiums, whether they be wakey, swinton feth, salford or haven.

Me too. I'll support my club no matter what, but I would never travel to Wakefield to watch Cas. Never. And I guess some of their fans feel the same way too.

| As an outsider looking in, why not? what is the distance betweem your clubs? You both come under the borough of Wakefield so surely a combined 20k stadium would work better than two 13k stadia? Saints and Wigan are slightly different as we are 10miles + apart and there is nowhere inbetween to situate a stadium, but if we were closer and there was somewhere to put a combined stadium and it meant both clubs SL survival then i'd be for it.
If Milan can do it, why can't you?

| As I said on the VT, I'd be happy to share at Glasshoughton - part of Wakey and Cas. The Wakey fans don't want that though.

Why dont you scrap plans on the UG site and go and share with Warrington or better still go and share with Widnes that way you could be the No1 team in that stadium and not play 2nd fiddle to the Wires. You know it makes sense if inter and ac can do it why cant you.

It's good to see you havn't over reacted! As I said if it wasn't for geography and it meant our SL survival i would. It seems some fans are open to the idea. You could have the No1 purpose built rugby league stadium in the country, host internationals and WCC, plus a stadium that is in use 25 wks a year as appose to 12/13.

Not really sure just whereabouts the proposed stadium is at Newmarket but if its in Methley itself then the postcode is Leeds. That might solve a few problems

As i said in the thread earlier, niether set of fans would go for travelling to the other population centre, leaving us to put it somewhere in the middle (normanton being the only option really), but that puts it miles away from both teams, which would inevitabley means some fans would be lost for both teams, it wouldnt really be a 'home fixture' if it were staged in another town, the only club i can think of that did that was swinton and it proved to be a disaster (would you be happy about your new stadium if it were in say prescott or newton le willows?) Plus theres nothing really to do in normanton (wheras if/when the stadium is built in glasshoughton it would be easier to get to and have more to do than any other sl stadium ie skiing, swimming, cinema, bowling, lazer tag, as well as dozen of shopstores, pubs and returaunts, and ponty races nearby too) and wouldnt benefit our respective economies as much as having the stadium in the town city. Whatsmore if we shared a stadium we might last one licence period after that we would either be forced to merge or we just end up reverting one clubs name whilst the other had to start again (sheffield, gateshead) as the rfl wouldnt see any point in two licences being awarded to one stadium. Cas and wakey fans is not a case of 'i would rather go it alone and risk dropping a league than sharing with our rivals' its more a case of 'if we share a stadium, at least one of us will die'.
Sharing would be the worst possible outcome for both clubs imo.
