| Quote: Gronk! "Someone over on t'other forum made a good point, why has the council wasted 30 odd million on an art gallery that to be perfectly honest, will hardly bring folk in will it
The Hepworth will bring 250000 tourists a year to the region, and was built with the help of a great deal of grant money. The 30mill will be more than recovered, and is an investment not just for Wakefield but for the whole of Yorkshire for years to come. More people will visit the gallery than any of the individual clubs over the year. Live and let live .... it may not be your cup of tea, but then RL is a minority sport!

I highly doubt it will be that successful and I'd even go as far as saying it'll be closed down within 3 years maximum.
Why would people go there when there are far bigger & better galleries only a couple of hours away?

| The best solution for both clubs is to do what we did on Good Friday, and the other teams, and show that exciting local derbies do more for rugby league than some pin on a distant map. See you Saturday, and I hope we're both in next year.

Tourists from all over the world visit a dis-used power station in London! I drive past it every day as well, and while I agree its not a pretty building I would argue that its harsh lines and bleak colour reflect the history of the industrial area the site once was.
Lets be honest, pit heads were not a pretty site - but something about them still strikes a chord for me. And for all you ex-miners out there - theres a Henry Moore sketch on display of miners coming off duty that I would bet will bring a tear to your eye as you recall the comradeship and community of mining folk.
Sorry this is going off-topic, especially as the Grate Bonzo is lurking!

| Quote: danny boy1 "This is not the ostrich approach IA, how are your ramblings helping Castleford?
This isn't Cas & Wakey v the RFL and never will be, the RFL have clearly stated that ONE team will drop out of Superleague and be replaced by Widnes, whether that be Wakey, Cas, Crusaders or whoever, no ganging together will sway the RFL, unless it is the other clubs that ALL get together, but that's not going to happen, they are not going to vote to receive less Sky money are they?
I believe the development of Wheldon Road is a great idea and ticks so many boxes and delivers so much to the town and to the area as a whole, with absolutely no cost to the council, who seem to prefer to splash the cash the way of the city of Wakefield and I don't just mean helping with funding the wildcats planning for the NM project, but the new but horrific looking Hepworth Gallery and the new shopping centre, it does seem that the town of Castleford hasn't had much in the way of support from the council in recent years, so it's about time that changed and making sure the Wheldon Road project gets the green light should be top of the councils agenda!
If you are so confident the RFL will listen IA, why not come up with something positive rather than your usual negativity about anything Tigers?'"
I take it you've forgotten the 5 million they spent on a bridge, yes a bridge! That's really going to bring in tourists isn't it?

| What a sad game RL has become if this is what we are reduced to, I really don't think IA is trying to troll, either way whoever stays up or go's down i really have fallen out of a game I have been in love with since my earliest memories to now 30+ years later, I can't see any of that passion returning whilst the game keeps with the current franchise system. It's a real sad state of affairs I'm afraid.

| So I_A writes in a fashion that makes it sound factual although the only 'factual' element to it is that it's come from a 'credible source' with no concrete evidence supporting it.
Going to keep my powder dry but then people hear different things. I have no question that Opus would have pulled out had talks with the Council not gone their way.
The Council know that something will be built down there - Hicksons, The Jungle, Nestle and I think the Bus Depot are all going to get redeveloped. They are not going to have to pay a penny and any issues can be resolved. Think I_A may have got some info and exaggerated it tenfold to try and make it worse than it is.
Maybe I_A is a secret agent trying to undermine our licence bid?

The RW cheer-leading squad have arrived!
Sorry you think what you do Fully, I had more respect for you than this, but hey ho!
As for the comment about Opus then you clearly know nothing about developers, they don't get where they are by taking no for answer... you, like many others should READ my posts fully (like your name) before making such daft comments.. because they didn't actually get a no... they got a this is not what we had in mind and this could take time and money and still might not be suitable! RW was shocked, Opus, being in things for the long-hall (like their fellow developer - Yorkcourt) were relaxed, just like their proposed end user client they have in mind for the Superstore, yes I do know who it is now as well!
This will get through in the end, like I have also said, but it will take at least 18 months and the planners told Opus they think 3 to 5 years if at all. I have not exaggerated anything, but you can chose to not believe me, despite other very factual evidence I have posted about the planning application, which I do expect will be lodged at some point this year, but may not see the committee for months or years, while they get the details sorted and agreed.
Well, I disappearing for week, so knock yourselves out and the Ostrich pen is that way >

| I_A you cannot post something as though it is factual when you weren't there at all. And judging by what you've said your "source" wasn't either. So it sounds like a lot of hearsay.
Like I said, why would the Council turndown not just one piece but A LOT of inward investment. The whole of Wheldon Rd is going to be redeveloped and yes, in time, that could take a long time to resolve and issues to sort. What you're forgetting is that Cas only need planning permission to go through to get the funding so IMO, even if does get a load of section 106's, that's something for Opus to resolve - Cas will still get their cash.

| Why hasn't this clown been banned yet? He's a no-nothing troll and he's just making it look like he knows something by making big posts.
It's been shown time & time again by multiple posters all he does is come on here on trolling missions all the time.

| IA has forgot, or dare I say it, didn't know everyone who was present at this at meeting.
My Boss/friend actually did go and has no ties whatsoever with Castleford RL and his take on the meeting was one of a more optimistic one for Cas RL. His take on it was that whilst it's true to say that time is an issue (as it always is); it's not as negative as the opening post. To say or imply that the Council were negative just is not true. They have agreed to work extremely closely with Cas and Opus in a way that best serves the community.
My Boss/friend knows how much I love my club and couldn't wait to tell me he'd been to the meeting and how impressed with what he had seen and heard he was, and the interest that Cas' plans have sparked amongst developers and every major supermarket chain.
I hadn't bothered posting this until told by my Mother-in-law (wakey fan....though there's still time!) that it was on here, because it's not really news!
So it would seem to me that IA is indeed here to stir the pot as someone has already alluded to.
As a side issue; I understand why you don't want to publicise your "contact" IA; so I ask that you PM me with it. I'm more than happy to PM you the name of my Boss/friend on the understandig that neither is announced on the open forum. That way I can ask my source whether you're source was at the meeting, thus checking their credibility. Thanks.

| Not being negative isn't the same as not being as positive as you hoped.
Just as an aside. This is a quote from the Wakey chairman today about today's game: "it’s a perfect opportunity to show the RFL and wider audience just how much our two teams bring to the game". That should be the message from both clubs.

Hmmm... What a stark contrast to the words the Wakey echelons were 'Tweeting' when they visited Castleford last month. It sounds like the Wakey chairman has undergone some long overdue PR training, but it's a shame we already know his true feelings for Cas.

From a conversation I had at the ground with one of the Tweeters it sounds like they've realised that they overstepped the mark a bit & future comments will be toned down.
