I didn't realise Atkinson and Sampson shared the most appearence record.
Anyone think Huby can beat it?

Every chance if he stays fit and sticks at Cas.

17 apparently. Didn't stop playing until he was 36/37. 20 years at Cas.

Daryl Clark may have a shot!

Huby has now made 160.

Excluding 2003, 2004 & 2011 he runs at an average of 24 per season.

Joyner is 1st with 613 so Huby would need to play to around 44 years of age.

Sampson and Atkinson 2= with 431

Harold Haley 10th with 338 so that might be a realistic target if he plays at Cas to 32/33 and stays relatively injury free.

JJ ran at an average of 30.65 games per season, every season, for 20 seasons.
Phenomenal achievement really.

Must remember tho that JJ had more opportunites than the guys do now.

JJ would have played in competitions such as the Yorkshire Cup, Regal Trophy, and others such as JP trophy, BBC Floodlit etc.

A good run in these comps all help towards what is a surely an unbeatable record in the modern game!

apparently Huby's dad is playing for Castleford Rugby Union team at propr, so Craig may well have the longevity in him.

Don't want to poo poo this stat site too much as I think it by and large is great and has obviously taken a hell of an effort to compile, and its one I go to regularly, but just how accurate are these stats as I can see that prior to the 1996 season, only league matches show tries, goals etc. Did we really win the Regal Trophy in 1994 without scoring a solitary try, how on earth did we get to Wembley in 1992 if we never so much as scored a drop goal to get there !- Does this effectively make all the stats totally wrong !

Thanks.

The stats are correct in terms of the seasonal totals. However, since the seasonal totals is all I have I have lumped them all into the league section. So pre-1996 the league totals include all league and cup games. So while the split is not correct, the total is correct. I am gradually working back through season by season to try and split them out accordingly but with 70+ years to do it's quite a lengthly process.

No, no we didn't & no. I think this is covered above though as Fully rightly points out, at the match level the data is there.

It's one person's effort to try and make the history of our great club available to all. There may be inaccuracies (there are some I'm already aware of and have on my very long 'to do' list) but if people contact me to point these out then they can be rectified. Equally rthere's plenty of data that's missed in terms of old match lineups, player debuts, transfers, etc. I have a large collection of programmes and newspapers at home that I need to sift through and extract data from.

The site also took a bit of a back seat last year due to outside issues, the revamped one will be online next week hopefully with a lot of stuff that was taken down last year updated and back online.

@ Stu

I for one think it's a great site and I was tempted to do something similar about the time that SL started. It was so, so time consuming, I eventually gave up and I still have part-filled databases with match stats in.

You have my undying admiration and I wish you well in sorting out the tweaks.

I understand how it reads now Stu, I have found out a couple of old Rothmans Yearbooks from the early 90's and can see that the player stats for appearances and tries etc. for say 1994 do tally up to the final total, albeit without the detail of cup separation. You have my full admiration for what you have achieved so far, and l look forward to seeing the updated site.
I can remember back in 1986 after buying Len Garbett's book, I had all the best intentions of logging the stats onwards, but as things so often happen, I kinda lost track early on and gave up.
Have you ever considered turning the stats into a book, a kind of update from Len's 86 book - It would probably do well - a lot of fans don't access the net, and would probably prefer a hard copy to refer to.
