| Quote: poppys mum "Where do we play him JF, his best position is FB. He'll never play Centre so we are stuck.
Last night i would have changed things around after HT goldie would have gone to FB richie owen to wing and sorry but wainwright sub'd.
We could then get rangi and sherwin back as a partnership......TM tactics were beyond a joke and to put joe on the bench was pathetic.
TM needs to sort himself out never ming mcgoldrick.'"
And punish Wainwright who did no wrong just so we don't have to take off someone who has played poorly? I don't think so, Wainwright was one of the players yesterday who showed a bit of heart and passion.
Neither McGoldrick or Sherwin did anything to justify being on the pitch yesterday, it's a shame we had no option that included neither of them.
All McGoldrick did for us yesterday was earn us extra defensive practice by giving away stupid penalties.
Another thing, McGoldrick is perhaps the worst fullback I have ever seen when it comes to defending and as I recall, Richie Owen made some fantastic tackles last night to prevent Wigan scoring when they looked all but certain to. We'd have conceded more with Goldy at FB IMHO.

| Ryan is a centre, thats what we brought him in as and thats where he should be playing.
Yet again he is put in a half back role by TM wher he's either asked to do way too much, or simply can't help himself getting involved in everything, in which case, TM needs to tell him.
Personally I cannot see what Evans offers us in the centre, Shenton and Goldy is a must for the start of next year. Sherwin to second receiver-where he gets more time on the ball and looks much more dangerous and turn Rangi into a tricky little srum half, for which he has all qualities.

That, my friend, makes perfect sense!
We should have hauled Goldie off and put Netherton in at hooker last night, with Chase & Sherwin in the halves. I've never been a Goldie knocker and have reserved judgement on what has been a disappointing season, but against Celtic he played like a headless chicken with the same amount of brains and last night he was just a liability. I'm not going to demand he gets shipped out or whatever, but he needs a dramatic improvement next season, and if that means putting him in at centre, where his running game can be utilised (and he won't have to pass the ball!) so be it.

| As I've just said on the other forum we need to find somewhere for him to play and soon. We've given him a 4 year deal and as far as I am concerned, we play Richard Owen at fullback if fit and we play Rangi Chase at stand-off if fit.
Taking into account that we are missing Hudson, yesterday I would have been tempted to start Netherton at hooker for 20 minutes with Chase at SO and Goldy on the bench, then when Netherton went off we could have put Chase at hooker and brought a fresh McGoldrick on to link up with Sherwin.

| Pre-season I'd have taken 9th/10th as a finish. As the season wore on I thought we had a good chance of the play-offs if home form improved. Bonus was making the play-offs even without the home form improvement.
The disappointment was we could/should have won last night but once again TM tinkers with the starting line up (IMHO) to accomadate our biggest liability McGoldrick. Previous 2 games Chase & Sherwin have
1. Ruled the game away to Quins
2. Worked to get us back & on top against Celtic
So why mess to have someone who is not a HB, will never make even a mediocre FB, Loose foward if all other options are used but is supposed to be a centre when his tackling, especially 1on1, is suspect at best looked great when we where in NL 1 but not SL standard.

| Putting Chase in at starting hooker was a big mistake imo. He just seemed to spend his time tackling in the middle of the park rather than making things happen.
McGoldrick, I've said the same for about 3 years, we should get rid. His best position here has been at FB. Richie Owen is a better FB so unless we put Richie out on the wing, we have nowhere to play one of our highest earners (and quota spots).

| Sure do seem to be a lot of Goldy knockers on here.
Didnt Goldy fire out the passes that got us two or three of the tries we scored against Celtic? Very short memories some of our fans.
We are a better attacking team with Goldy in the side, yes he is not defensively brilliant, and yes he does make mistakes, but at the end of the day he is an attacking player, always looking to create gaps for himself and others, this will ensure that he makes more mistakes that a forward whose job is to catch and run.
Yes he's been out of form this season, does continually beeing moved from position to position effect his form, I thonk you would have to say yes it does. Did he have an exceptional game last night, no and neither did the majority of the side. Was he a liability and the reason we played badly, no he wasnt. Did he give away a couple of penalties for high tackles yes, so did Liam Higgins, dont see anybody asking for us to tear up his contract.
Think a few 'Cas Fans' need a bit of perspective here, he is one of our best attacking 'flair' players who by his own admission has been out of form for the best part of the season. I for one hope he will return next year and display some of the form that we know he is capable of.

| Given the nature of McGoldrick's contract, we're gonna have to find somewhere for him to play.
I think everyone wants to see him perform well because he's a likeable character, but he needs to put this season behind him and once we find a position for him, he needs to make it his own.
I was hoping for a fairy tale finish to the game yesterday with Goldy going over for a try but it wasn't to be.
How quickly things change. At the start of this season we were chanting his name at all opportunities, singing his praises and laughing off interest from Wigan and now everyone is wanting to get rid of him.

I agree!! The thing that surprises me is all the talk about 'where shall we play him???'......said as if we've got to fit him in somewhere. Only because we've got to get sort of value for money out of him??
At the beginning of year shirt presentation, Matterson wasn't sure where to fit McGoldrick in, on the 1st team line up........if the problem was that he's so good he ought to be first choice in every position...then fine!! However sadly, that isn't the case. In the majority opinion he isn't good enough to be a first consideration in any position at Suprleague level. A utility player that comes on...only if we have to...then maybe!
Can we.....Cas as a club.... afford to pay a mediocre player so much money? Personally I'd rather invest in the development of 3 or 4 of our more promising juniors.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

| I sometimes wonder if fans think we can just tear up 4 year deals and say "sorry Ryan, but you're out" and he's just going to say "oh, ok, thanks" and leave without complaint.
We've made the decision as a club to sign him on for as long as we have and it's unlikely that after this season we've got clubs battering down the doors to steal him away from us.
On form, he can be a fantastic player and we have seen this in the past so there is no reason why he can't get back to his best next season.

What exactly triggered this incident? I didn't see it.
And chokeholds are perfectly legal in UFC I believe.

It was Phelps mate. There was an article about Mcgoldrick (SP?) a few weeks back regarding his lifestyle and about he wanted a grand final tattoo if they got there but there weren't much space to put one. He also mentioned nobody tells him what to do and that he is a loose cannon in the changing rooms and even TM can't control him and lets him do what he wants. After every tackle last night he wanted some biff.

Incidently no-one has mention how utterly useless feather was when he came on, widders would have been a much more useful impact sub
