Have you seen his CV? As much as I hate St Helens, he lifted trophy after trophy while at Saints.
Are you likely to attract a coach with so much silverware won? No.
Get behind him.'"
Anybody breathing could of coached them at that time!, the reason Millward had success at Saints is he had internationals all over the field and leaders in Cunningham,Joynt,Sculthorpe,Martyn and Long on the pitch dictating their plays. What did he do when he left?...Failed at North Queensland, failed at Wigan...and yet the fools who run our club awarded him with a THREE year deal

| In Basils defence he oversaw a lot of change at Saints and produced a fantastic team when he was sacked. He also had to dip into the bargain basement and blood players like Wellens, Higham, Stankovich and the other back row lad I cant remember, signing players like West and Cruikshank to come under a cap dominated by the Cunninghams and Joynts and Newloves.
He had no chance at Wigan with Farrell, Wane and Radlinski behind the scenes, plus no money to spend and most of his squad in the stands. He failed badly in Aus and imo under achieved with us at Leigh when he came back.

While he may be blessed with the speed of a tranquilised slug there is no way Wellens should be described as a bargain basement make-do player. He has been a first team regular at Saints for at least a decade since coming through their systems.
Also he didn't "blood" Higham, he brought him with him from Leigh.
As others have said anybody could have won things with that Saints team, they only really had Bradford to challenge them and a squad of internationals. Shaun McCrae won things at Saints, ask Salford or Hull fans about him and his coaching. Millward's ability to coach is demonstrated better by his record since leaving Saints. In that time in SL he has failed to improve two struggling sides (in Wigan and then Cas) who were both capable of mid table finishes before he arrived and with him in charge both ended up as bottom of the table. Cas have unfortunately for them had to put up with it for longer than we did but his record shows that he is not the man to turn it around for them and he should go before things gets even worse.

| Wellens was a kid in the academy and higham a kid with potential playing pt RL. He was throwing kids in at Wigan in at Wigan with nobody to look after them and had no money to strengthen.

I'm sorry but the team/squad is not 14th best on paper... With a half competent coach our squad is as good as the Wakefield one as well as a few others.'"
No as ever you twist what folk say, why? Because you are bereft of a genuine argument.
I said we were better than you - we are at present.
I said we had a chance of top 8 - if results went our way - they did not but there is an outside chance I suppose.
However at no point in the last 25 years have I ever considered WTRLFC as Championship winning material. - You on the other hand still rather sadly believe that with a new coach and a few new players you will instantly become contenders. We are BOTTOM FEEDER clubs the only difference is that most Trinity fans know the score, they don't like it but they accept the realities of life. We fight for the scraps.
FWIW it would take a Coach of biblical gifts, a millionaire with deepest of pockets and 5 years in SL to get back to where you were 14 years ago which was best of the rest.
Let your anger go and face he truth, life will become easier - you are the 14th worst team in SL until the table says otherwise. That by the way will apply to WTRLFC if we don't start picking up wins because being bottom of the pile was something we seemed to be addicted to some years ago and is all to easily attained.

| when did he say we were title contenders?
he said we are better than 14th.
slight difference - so maybe worth checking who is twisting words.
Come on Vasty, a cas fan posting on a cas forum, he's hardly trolling for an argument......

Who's in line for the job? Kear & Noble seem obvious choice for immediate appointments. Would like to see Kear mastermind a win for you against Leeds
