| Quote: Bethman "If Rangi was to leave we would need a good player to replace him spreading his salary across 3 players would get us more of what we have had previous ie 3 below average SL players. We should use as much of his salary as in possible to get the best player available, although it would be much more likely we would end up with Seymour from Hull.'"
I'm sure RC reported salary could be used to pay the wages of 3 good SL standard players.

| Ferris has stated that even if Chase leaves there will be no further additions to the squad. All monies received through transfer and saving on salary will be simply be absorbed into the clubs poor financial situation.

it's fair enough really. we are being asked to stump up our brass cause the club is struggling, it wouldn't be prudent to get a large income from the release of a player and spend it all on the 2013 season.
the long term stability of the club is far more important thanfinishing 9th rather than 13th in 2013

| Is there only me that would be extremely disappointed if Rangi left?
When on his game he changes the whole direction of the team. Yes he is on a big wage and it could be better used elsewhere but if (more likely when) he goes, who is going to be our playmaker and our creator? we have nobody else now that Danny has gone and Ellis cannot do this on his own

The danger of dishing out big contracts sadly, the players always hold all the cards.

| All the blame for that goes to Mr Bosman it is not right a player can dictate to a club and after signing big money contracts decides he has found a patch of greener grass a player can slap in transfer request to leave and still want paying up, then like Chase tell the press i really want to stay and all the fans then are after blood as they believe the club wont shut.
All clubs should be entitled to a transfer fee for a payers registration after all they are a clubs assets

I can recall a good few years back, the then Nottingham Forest boss "Harry" Bassett who at the time was having a problem with expensive stroppy Dutch striker Pierre Van Hoijdonk, asking fellow Premier League managers for £1m each so he could leave said striker to rot in the reserves for the remainder of his contract (3yrs I think) leaving him pretty worthless, and the club able to sign a replacement.
The short sighted managers didn't help out, the player ended up winning and sport missed a trick, clever fellow that Mr Bassett.

Ah yes, good example using Dave Bassett, -that renowned thinker of our time.
Some would say that asking various teams (and ergo their paying fans) to chip in to aid a greedy mercenary to basically put his feet up in the reserves for 3 years is the act of a cretin. But no, the idea that an entirely worthless paying protest would just highlight the fact that, hey, if you too are a nob that refuses to fulfill your contractual obligations for a petulant and spurious reason, then if you chuck the teddies out you also may not have to do the job that you are vastly overpaid for. Google 'Winston Bogarde', Nostradamus, see how that one panned out.

Pierre? Is that you?
The short sighted may consider it putting their feet up, but to someone with a modicum of sense it can also be viewed as three years in the stiffs not playing, hardly training, being devalued and going off radar making their desired next move less flattering in terms of salary and suitor.
It also sends out the right message, come for the right reasons and be expected to fulfil the contract you have signed with some honour and professional dignity.
As it is this isn't the case and look where it got us, hardly a sporting utopia unless your a player.

I'm not entirely sure of the point you are making.
Forest couldn't afford to "rot" a player who didn't want to play for them any more.
Chelsea could afford to "rot" a player who probably did want to play, but was not deemed of the required standard by the manager (who didn't sign the player).
Are Cas a "Forest" or a "Chelsea" and will Chase have the desire to perform if he actually wants away?
