Facts
1. Mathers is not the worst fullback in the league
2. Wakefield signed Mathers cut priced off us as he wasn't in basils plans this year
3. The season is now over Mathers is our player again
4. Some other SL clubs don't have as good as Mathers at fb
5. If wakey don't want to offer what we say, they can do a running jump and we can wait for a club who doesn't have a better fb to make an offer - any offer
6. If no club does that, it still means wakey have no god given right to sign him
7. Winning 7 games in a row the back end of a season does not all of a sudden make WTW as attractive a proposition as Melbourne
After saying all the above u still believe he will be at WTW next year as borg are a perfect match. Both feel they are far better than they are and have far too much arrogance about themselves when they really have no need to.

No club is going to pay you to sign a player they know you don't want. You can't afford to keep a player on the wage he is on if he isn't playing, plus the relationship between him and Millward is non-existent.
I suspect that he will be coming to Wakey provided he is willing to take a pay cut (or you continue to pay some of his wage)

| I have been quite surprised at the Wakey fans reaction, I am pleased they got to have a go in the pay-offs I posted that elsewhere ages ago.
But there seems to be people making a permanent reservation at the top table and an assumption they'll go from top 8 to 6 and all of a sudden the RL world has turned on its axis, not much humility or realism! Maybe we were the same when things were going better for us, I don't know.
On this thread, if Wakey fans think offering 20p and £10 a week to Mathers is going to work, it won't. But he is not coming back to Cas. So I expect a deal to be done the figures will be private but Wakey fans will speculate they rodded Cas, Cas fans will be told it is a fair deal. Mathers will be happy and everyone will claim to be right.
It's all a yawn fest really.

Not everybody feels that way. It will be tough for Wakefield next year, more so because of the increased expectation.
We effectively finished 9th. If we did that again I would say that is ok.
Saying that, I think we have a good side that can do better so we'll see. We worked hard to get where we ended up and it wasn't easy sailing early on.
Things are great at Wakefield now with owner and board doing a good job and on field performances looking good too. We just want that to continue but no God given right to it.

You're not noted for hyperbole, so I'm interested in where you've seen 'Wakey fans' express that view?
We've had a surprisingly good season, but I haven't seen anyone staking a permanent claim to a top 6 finish; if I had, I'd be the first to disabuse anyone of that notion. Do you have links?

| There are a few balanced views, but there are also, here and elsewhere a good proportion of non-too-modest gloats.
I am fine with either, it was a statement rather than a complaint and to be fair - the people making the stupid statements are probably the same minority as Cas fans who post twaddle - maybe I just noticed it more because I am a bit sore this season!!! Maybe, in the words of John Doe - Seven - I have become envy!

That is the funniest thing i've read on here.
Wakey are in no position to be arrogant and after the season you guys have just had, neither are Mr Milward or Cas .
FWIW, Mathers may be a Cas player (by virtue of his contract), but he aint gonna be playing for you any time soon.
I guess you will try and sell him elsewhere, unless Wakefield make you an offer that your club is happy with.

Bit harsh, but get your point. That said it's no different to the way some Cas fans were behaving last year - we all have em.
Also Wakey is way better than Melbourne, what the hells wrong with you

Can't see how else it would end, you didn't want him and neither did many others. Not a huge Mathers fan myself (way to inconsistent for me), but oddly has probably found his perfect club in us. I feel he will finally settle down with us and we may benefit from a wiser more level headed Mathers as he sees out his career. He's no world beater but on his day and in a safe environment he's good enough for most SL teams most of the time.
Let's all move on.

And on the miracle that i actually agree with Vastman ,Thanks for the reasonable discussion and the answers to my initial posting , Best of Luck to Mr Mathers wherever he ends up
