This is obviously some NIMBY trying to con the Cas fans!

It's a very poor and transparent effort from someone who obviously underestimates the intelligence of rugby league fans

Is that because he has a differing opinion to you which isn't supportive of your stadium aspirations?

I don't think anyone can argue that the potentially increased flood risk to Methley and Castleford; and a reduction in green belt land by the proposed development will cause some concerns.

As for the talk of financial dealings, that's purely speculation but I seriously doubt that the council have the funds available to just be able to write off large chunks of money.

Whilst i dont give a flying about your proposal, and i can see you are upset over someone elses argument, How can you say that it is a cas fan because of his writing style and rugby references? please explain your reasoning for you assumption ?

I can't see why any rugby league fan would really object to a new stadium proposal.

read my post again.i meant that the author of the letter you linked in the y.e.p was unlikely to be the person who started this thread due to the writing style and rugby references. I,m happy to apologise for presuming he was a cas fan, however if your attitude is typical i,m sure he will have a very receptive audience on here! icon_rolleyes.gif chillpill.gif

For a moderator you post some tripe! Try looking at the planning application and associated documents on the council website. Floods, greenbelt? d040.gif is lard your alter ego? icon_wink.gif

Have you seen the plans?
Increase in woodland and habitat for amphibious creatures, increased (industrial) drainage system, ban on HGV access through Methley and it's access road, strict clamping regulations in residential areas during RL games. As you can tell the plan is very well padded, on recommendation of the council.
But lets think about the site at the moment. On the whole scrub, rife with fly tippers, land which the council have always said "will be developed sooner or later" & is due for reclassification very soon.

The vast majority of the claims made are waffer thin and have been well thought through (and are continuing to be amended to accommodate recommendations from Yorkshire Ecology) and will greatly improve the area in the long run, for the benefit of all within our Merry City.

However i think the single biggest silver bullet for the NIMBY's is the feasibility study that the council conducted during the Thornes fiasco. This document was commissioned by the council and cost thousands, after over a year of studying sites across the city RSDriver found this to be the only suitable site for a stadium in the area. Hence the council approaching the Yorkcourt in the first place.

(While we cried about Thornes many other fans laughed, how ironic if the deciding blow in granting permission came from a document commissioned under the "Thornesgate" ear)

So, are you saying that the council gave the nod to Yourcourt that they would have no objection to developing 250 acres of Green Belt land ??

Green belt for how long?
It has always been on the whole brown field. The land has to be reclassified every 10 years, why would a council let a suitably placed large site of mainly scrub sit undeveloped forever. This area is hardly The North York Moors nor even Notton, this is Newmarket colliery were talking about!
I believe the council were always waiting for the right time to develop this site, hence the classification of some of it "green belt", this IMO (and the VAST majority of residents of Wakefield) is that chance.
The one thing everyone who lives round here can agree on is that we have some stunning areas of natural beauty, can anyone say this is one of those? The creation of this development will go a hell of a long way to the creation of much better quality "green field" and habitat.

And as far as the residents of Methley are concerned, they have plenty of green field land on their side of the motorway, so the "green lung" is far from gone.

If they were brave enough for a public debate with the developers and their associates i dare say they wouldn't have a leg to stand on after they had they points fully explained, as they clearly missed them the first time.
