However the recession + the RFL statements on stadia + the RFL stating at least 1 club will be promoted has put several clubs under intolerable pressure. Rather than have a situation where a couple of clubs face relegation and everyone else can plan ahead we have 4/5 clubs worrying about the chop in 2011.'"
true, but surely the big argument in favour of the franchise system was to bring stability on the field so a team can blood youngsters for the long term good knowing they don't have to spend money they don't have signing journeymen aussies to avoid the drop.
the pressure your talking about has been caused in part by year upon year of stagnation by clubs on the facilities front, when capital was more readily available in the form of grants etc too many clubs chose to do nothing. Now, the RFL were well within their rights to give these clubs the hurry up on improving their facilities or else, the trouble is the global financial meltdown has occurred since and the RFL should really revisit these stadium minimum requirements in light of the current situation and give everybody more time seeing as the financial landscape has changed so dramatically

agreed. the idea was good but the execution pathetic. also has made the championship competition a joke, its worthless since they made winning the northern rail into a qualifying trophy!!
everything that happens on the field is becoming irrelevant in modern rugby league.
the whole sport is becoming a laughing stock!

That ties in with what a Cas director told me and that Wakey have stuck 10% into Glasshoughton Cas 40% and the remaining 50% the council, with the councils share going down each year.

LOL Busted!
I can't see there being much truth in that anyway given that logic suggests the council doesn't have that sort of money to throw around, and it wouldn't make sense along side the transfer of land assets earmarked for both clubs.

| It says a lot when people are filling the gaps with every bit of gossip that circulates the town. Years after its anouncment we are still clueless on all fronts such as finance, time scales and so on and all the while wakey/Fevs new projects seem to be gathering momentum while ours seems to be standing still! Dont get me wrong I wish them all the best with their new stadium projects but from my point of view we have had much longer to prepare and gather our own momentum to get the project going proper than they have.
Maybe it is just my imagination but Wakey in particular seem to have made more progress in a shorter amount of time than we have although their first project came to nothing they appear to have had a plan B on reserve do we?
It's starting to drive me potty every time I drive past the site on the m62 or drive through Xscape and look up for any new activity (like Richard Wright breaking ground with a golden shovel!) I just say to myself "get it built" Will it ever happen? and what happens if/when it dosent? I think the more nervouse we get about it the more of a huge let down it is going to be if it all fails and a new and uncertain future befalls our club and we end up where we fought so hard to get out of in the first place.
Having said that I still hold out hope despite my own pesimism and glum attitude that in a few years time we will have the facilities to make us competitive with the best of the league and who knows what else? The location with the leisure complex and motorway so close makes this too good an oppertunity to let slip so I hope all involved are fighting tooth and nail to get it done. Our long term future is on the line with this so I say again to all involved " GET IT BUILT!!"

| No Whats most annoying as a true fan is the constant promise of news that the club fail to deliver , on the website this is posted
Quote: "LATEST NEWS - APRIL 2010
On behalf of Chief Executive Richard Wright. This features Castleford Tigers, Wakefield Metropolitan District Council and the developers Waystone PLC. In the meantime, everyone has been working very hard to meet the action points from the last meeting.
'"
so we are now in may and what news of the meeting or did it ever happen, They need to start keeping people in the loop even if its bad news otherwise gosip starts and people make stuff up even at red hall

| No i think the club need to start setting some clear targets / info updates and keep the fans updated, The lack of info is creating a bad feeling around the town and come on its a business and to expect people to get this info from a blog is poor!!
