And people are trying to convince themselves that there isn't an abusive element among Cas fans?
I suppose you will be happy then when RL gets no media exposure at all? So no sponsors and therefore no money and clubs get into more financial trouble. Glad the sport doesn't rely on people like you.

| But it wasn't an "abusive" element of Cas fans.
It was the Cas fans who dared to sing a song with a swearword in it when the game was live on television.
The fact that he wrote it about Cas and doesn't dare say it about anyone else is the problem. As people have already highlighted, James Graham v Leeds is on example. Where was his similar vilification of the South Stand when they sang songs there? Other clubs similarly do it on a weekly basis.
I would expect this thread to grow and grow throughout the season with accounts of where fans have "abused" or used swearwords in songs.

| Quote danny boy1="danny boy1"Same here steady, bad language is unfortunately rife in all sport these days, but as with the incident that was blown out of all proportion when we played Crusaders, we will get slated more than others because we are an easy target.
I really do wish we could sing something positive at games and cut out the bad language, it's not good when we are trying to attract families to the sport, but having said all that, Cas should definitely not be singled out as there are far worse offenders, but the best way forward is just don't use foul and abusive language and give those with nothing better to do, the ammunition to castigate us once again.'"
Funnily enough the only ground where there is no systematic bad language chanting (by the home crowd anyway) is at Gilbert Brutus. There is one particular song aimed at the ref, used probably four or five times each season, along the lines of "Ref you are breaking our b@lls", or if the Ref is particularly bad, we sing the Millaise. All the chanting is to encourage the home team and there is NEVER any chant against the opposing team or supporters.
Having said that are chants are very limited: Catalans, Allez, Allez, Allez, The Santa Espina (a local folk song) and "Ils sont la".
I think that chants against the opposition must be a cultural thing in the UK.

Funny, anyone else remember how the pop end at kr came across on tv ??? The biggest gathering of unwashed foul mouthed inbred scousers known to man. Mind when it's a 'fashionable' club we can gloss over it.
Glass houses !!!!

And yet another example of the abusive element among Cas fans! I think you'd be better suited at football with that attitude.

| Correct, cas fans are the only fans to throw tounge in cheek comments in all of rugby league. We should all take the thousands of pounds we put into the game and take the money to another sport.
You want a job with the rfl in marketing ???

| Quote SaintsFan="SaintsFan"It's a pity that people on here have taken the approach they have towards Andy Wilson and his comments. He heard what he heard and he commented upon it. He would say the same thing about any group of fans no matter which club they supported, assuming he heard them first of course. And it wasn't as if he was saying all Cas fans were like that; just a group of them. Every club has them. He just happened to hear your lot and was bothered by it. He isn't alone in being bothered by the element within each club who choose to be abusive. I don't like the element within my own fanbase who are like that and I would hope that if Andy Wilson, or any other journalist, heard any Saints fans being abusive he would embarrass them by naming and shaming them in his articles.
I'm not a Guardian reader but the Guardian is now the only broadsheet to employ an RL correspondent. In other words, those who read the broadsheets are rarely, if ever, exposed to our game. Often, though not always, people who read the broadsheets are also people who have money and connections, and our sport needs money and connections.
Instead of abusing Andy Wilson (who is a very good journalist actually), why don't you read his weekly blog and maybe join in some discussion there - not abusive or silly stuff but good stuff about rugby league - and support the one remaining dedicated broadsheet RL correspondent still in existence, before we lose him as well?'"
The point is he does hear other fans swearing at matches but doesn't comment on it, he never misses a chance to have a go at cas,he doesn't have a good word to say about us.
If a broadsheet journalist was using the national media to try to damage the reputation of saints due to personal agenda would you be so supportive of him?

Because he isnt targetting your team or his beloved loiners every time someone swears, you think he is ok. The man has an agenda against Castleford, and if you read his ''work'' you will see he has a pop at cas even if we are not playing in the game he is reporting on. Lazy journalist and when he tries , his ''work'' is infantile.
all in all , Andy Wilson is a waste of time.

| The terraces have always been places where you learn your bad language. It's not fitting with a family game, but equally I expect to hear it, and I don't think it's any different than thirty years ago. In fact, thirty years ago, opposing fans were more interested in knocking ten bells out of each other. Unless Cas fans were singing something particularly offensive, such as racist or homophobic, it seems a bit rough to single them out, as due to the Gareth Thomas incident, it suggests a problem that isn't really any different to any other club.

| Interesting letter in this weeks League Express mailbag commenting on aggressive and abusive chanting by Salford fans at their recent game at the new Saints ground. Says that some fans were ejected as a result.
Wonder if Mr Wilson saw fit to report on that.....
