No way. It'd take the sport backwards.'"
Halving it probably is too far but how on earth can the sport continue paying the rate it's doing now?
I own businesses and pay myself a wage that the businesses can afford. I'd go under in no time if i paid myself more than the business could afford - why is RL and sport any different?

| I was listening to Andy Henderson on the radio after sundays match and he was saying the salary cap should be lowered as you have clubs spending up to the salary cap and clubs like Cas that don't overstretch themselves. He said this was creating a two tier competition that was doing the game harm. I totally agree but doubt the league will address this. This will always happen as you have clube that think they can buy seccess. Just look at Bradford its a joke.

| The author is wrong. Now that Union is professional and already taking players away from RL halving the cap will send players to Union in droves. It will be the beginning of the end of RL as anything other than a minority semi-pro sport.
What the RFL needs to do is to drop this obsession with stadiums to allow clubs to concentrate on what's important to fans- the product on the pitch.

But the economics point towards the stadiums, If Cas/Wakey had there new stadiums they would generate more income and in theory be able to spend closer to the cap.
Bradford is just poor management

| Why not look at having the cap set up differently...
Set the cap up at 800K a year for non club trained players, club trained players do not count on the cap, this will put more of an empasis on home grown players and will stop other clubs stealing your best talent as this would count towards there cap, these club would then be jossling for any youngsters 18 or under and as you can see there seems to be a decent spread of SL clubs youngsters go to.

Like the new stadium is doing salford a load of good in respect of support , like the new stadium stopped widnes going into administration.
We have to be careful if we are basing our future on 2 or 3 thousand new supporters coming out of the woodwork just cos we have a new ground.
Personally I would tell the RFL to take a running jump , Tart up wheldon lane and stay where we are

There is mileage in that. If a new stadium needs attendances of 10k just to break even then you'll need 12k to create the income needed to really push on as a club. Thats an awfully big jump and runs the risk of putting real financial pressure on the club if it doesn't succeed. The RFL's insistance on modern stadia in the current climate is foolish at best, downright dangerous for clubs at worst.

+1
Even spin it round and ask the question.....'Is the current Probiz Collosseum putting the same additional 2 to 3K attending each game now?'. I personally don't think it is, but then again I'm not as fickle as some out there.
But if they do come out of the woodwork, will the extra 2 to 3K supporters be sufficient to pay our new and increased overheads.....as well as fund a better squad to get results.....as well as making us financially more stable for the clubs future. Quite a gamble if you ask me!!
Are we really in a better situation that we were before SL? I don't recall so many top flight clubs in such significant debts back then......or carrying such large negative over drafts.

No club , or even the game is better off since the start of superleague, since this private members club we as a game have shrunk with the loss of traditional clubs . Thanks mr Lewis , why didnt you stick to tennis?

I think that's a great idea.

No, but I think it puts 2-3k current fans off from bringing their children and partners, that's where the growth will come from.

Sadly, i'm one of these 2-3k who doesn't buy a season ticket due to our poor standards of facilities. I can only make so many games of the season anyway but if we had a new stadium i'd buy a season ticket anyway.
I've stated before that although i love our ground to bits and the atmosphere is second to none, the facilities are shocking in this day and age. The view of the ground isn't the best especially for children.

| Will a new ground bring in extra revenue?
Yes is the answer, as a previous poster has already mentioned the 2 3k extra supporters will be made up of people like me. I am a 20 year season ticket holder, my eldest is a 7 year season ticket holder, Ive got a 5 & 4 year old who would be season tocket holders if we were in the new stadium, also Id buy more beer before and during the game if I could get in and out of the bar in under 20 minutes!
Finally if Cas play there cards right and build a big, low cost bar on the side of the ground closest to escape, and market it properly, it has the potential to become another winterseem, generating income all year round Friday and Saturday night. Also could sell food all day breakfasts etc, £5 meal deals, not to mention club shop increased revenue.
So all in all Id say yes, being based at one of the busiest retail areas in West Yorkshire will dramatically improve our earning potential as opposed to being stuck halfway down Wheldon Lane.
