Quote: Speedy "Its not that, if the RFL fund the team then they can get ready from all the clubs that have been allowed to go to the wall, it would be a disgrace if they bail them out'"

You can bet your bottom dollar RFL will bail them out (again!!!). RFL will not allow Quins to to the wall. It will happen again what happened last time - Quins will no longer exist and they will re form Norwich Canaries or some other such nonsense -it is about time the RFL realised that London do not want Rugby League. eusa_wall.gif eusa_wall.gif

I'd let him resign, he's killing the game and thought up of the franchise joke.

Quote: casfanforlife "it is about time the RFL realised that London do not want Rugby League.
The number of new amateur clubs in London springing up every year, plus the number of youngsters playing the game and coming through to Super League (and international) level would indicate otherwise.

Before you mention crowds, you need to realise exactly where Harlequins are based and how long it takes to travel through London. It would take be an hour and a half at least to get to a Quins home game from my home in South West London (Quins are based in the South West). So simply saying that 'London doesn't want RL' is akin to saying that 'Manchester doesn't want RL' just because Salford's crowds are poor.

No doubt running and improving Quins is an expensive job, but so is spreading the word of the game across an entire county - which is exactly what they're being expected to do. It's perfectly legitimate to ask the governing body for support in expanding the game. It isn't fair to ask them to pay for the direct running costs of getting a team on the park, but that isn't what they're asking for is it?

As for Whitehaven, I do believe the RFL should aid Cumbrian clubs in promoting the sport across the counties, but the Cumbrian clubs don't have to do the same work on turning people onto the game as Quins have had to do in London.

Its really a simple question;

If the RFL assist Quins (and I hope they do), then are they really going to relegate one of the other clubs to the Championship.

Hasn't the term "fit for purpose" been bandied about by RFL bods for months now. How on earth could you look a clubs CEO in the eye and say "sorry mate but you have to go" and then help sustain Quins.

Keep ALL the current clubs in SL and promote a Championship club (Widnes anyone!).

It is laughable how the RFL try to keep these stories under wraps like Paddy Mortimer leaving (sacked) the performance department.

As one who vividly remembers the sort of stereotyped, p*ss take media treatment RL used to get before the likes of London, France, Wales were in the psyche I have to say I'd be gutted if Quins were allowed to fail.

Here's the thing, realistically Manchester DOESN'T want RL because they don't really care about RL or follow the game! Football is the only interest there in the same way as it is Sheffield, Gateshead, Carlisle, Nottingham, Paris & sadly, London.

If the RL bail out the Harlequins out will their then financial irregularities be ignored? I think so. Again making our game and the people who run it look stupid.

They wont be relegated or allowed to fail. The cynic in me sees this situation as something that saves our or Wakeys Superleague franchise, with the announcement beginning something like ' due to the current financial situation blah blah blah'. On the down side I can see Widnes being shafted again.

this idiotic franchise system needs scrapping and the whole of the RFL need frontal lobotomies, there must be a cure for this madness

Which team escaped relegation because of the introduction of franchises?
It wasn't Quinns!

The only remotely sensible one I can think of is Leyton Orient.

Dagenham and Barnet are too small. There is no non-league football ground in Greater London any better than those. Other than that you've got either modern grounds like Charlton and Millwall that are too big, plus other even bigger grounds; then there's the likes of Brentford that is too antiquated to satisfy the increasing drive towards modernisation of SL grounds.

Our current ground is as good as we'll get; the trouble is it's probably in the worst area of Greater London in which to establish RL. I'm not sure "London RLFC" as tenants of an established other club is ever going to work. It didn't the last time and a lot of people, myself included, felt the link up with Quins was the final throw of the dice. Being Quins at The Stoop feels like we've got our own ground to me in a way that squatting at Brentford FC didn't.

Ideally we need a ground of our own that isn't associated with a bigger club playing another code. Even Skolars have got that! Is there a dormant stadium somewhere that we could take over and redevelop as our own home? Even if there is it would require a benevolent multi-millionaire to make it happen. If the RFL & Sky really do feel it's so essential to sustain a London club in Superleague maybe they can do something to bring about a dedicated rugby league stadium in the capital?

YOU COULDNT MAKE THIS UP

Quote: ambernotyeller "I know all that and would still have preferred to stay with promo and relegation. You seem to forget that all knew there was no relegation therefore spending brass that year was a waste of money. If you want to be pedantic, who was relegated when an expansion club finished below them and also when the leagues perrennial cheats were allowed to rewrite the salary cap rules to suit themselves. Its all water under the bridge and a return to promotion and relegation is the only way to save this game from itself

Widnes have done the same thing, in reverse if you like, cruising through the season without any pressure to WIN.

Don't blame Widnes or Cas in either instance, playing the system that the RFL have dreamed up to improve the game and one thats made a mockery of our sport and everything it stood for IMO.
