In the words of the great Homer J Simpson "Doh"!
Rob Burrow played his junior rugby at Castleford Panthers before going to Featherstone Lions when they paid the best young players to join. These players included Richard Owen (from Westgate Redoubt), Joe Westerman (from Lock Lane) and Liam Watts (from Lock Lane).

You can't take the rise out of someone and then get it wrong yourself!! Rob played for the travs in fev from a very young age as i can remember playing against him for Stanley from u9s and then going to play for the travs myself ut u12s with players like James Ford ex cas, James Houston ex fev. I don't remember him ever playing for Cas Panthers or (Pointers as they were then) so i suppose you could say you are both right, he played his school rugby in cas and junior rugby in fev but hey ho dont let the truth get in the way of ridiculing someone. Doh.

Pretty sure that we signed him from York?

I guess I must've been seeing things when I watched Rob play for Cas Panthers in the same team as Kevin Till (Cas Academy & Gateshead) and Aaron Gornall (Leeds Academy). Silly me

Not sure of the criteria used in those figures - I can count at least 40 produced from the Wigan Academy system with probably more I've not remembered (half of them in the current Wigan side, half playing elsewhere).
Current squad (21):

Charnley
Goulding
Thornley
Prescott
McIlorum
Mossop
Hock
O'Louglin
Hansen

Other clubs (19):

S. Briscoe
Melling
Ainscough

S. Gleeson
Colbon
T. Coyle
Hargreaves

Yep! I think Widnes hold the record now for ex-Wigan players. At the Wigan game at the DW a few weeks back, I had my son with me, and he got fed up of me pointing at a Widnes player and saying "he used to play for us..."

Maybe, maybe not. To be fair, it wasn't a big history on Brough - more just pointing out that we never brought him through in any way.

Don't know the criteria but not included on the wigan list were Kavanagh, Howarth, Vievers, Johnson, Mellor, King and Burke.

Odd to miss them out, they all came through our academy, and all have played at least one game for a SL club.
That's not meant as bragging about how good our academy is, more for casting doubts on the accuracy of the figures - other clubs might well have similar omissions.
It does highlight one of the problems of our game in general, though...just half a dozen clubs producing a decent number of players, and the rest living off their cast-offs.
