I don't think you'd get £200k for him in the current market, especially with the financial situation hanging over clubs. Don't get me wrong, I think Chase is class and would love to have him at Wakefield, but realistically the days of big transfer fees are over. Having said that, if Hull paid £170,000 for Joe Westerman, that would make Chase worth around £1.7m!

His value will be ridiculous now. What we'd get for him is irrelevant because a) we wouldn't sell him and b) we wouldn't sell him unless the fee was ridiculous and someone was willing to stump up for him.

a) and b) seem to contradict each other.
Also, how do you know what 'we' would do? If Hull or Wire came in with a couple of hundred grand, who are you to say that your Minister of Information could turn it down?
Best not be too self-assured - don't want to do a gronk.

| Because we value him much higher than that. He cannot be replaced.
I understand what you mean by a) and b). IWTID said we wouldn't get £200k for him. What I meant to say was that we wouldn't entertain offers for him and even if we were to, they would have to meet OUR valuation if they really wanted him. So we WOULD get more than £200k for him regardless of climate because we wouldn't sell unless they offered considerably more.

I don't think you'd turn down a £200,000 offer for him as I don't believe your finances would allow you to. Didn't the Joe Westerman money go towards the the new stadium? If so, that doesn't seem like a club that is flush with cash.

He's on a 4 year deal... they could have got 200k instead of doing that IMO and i'm also led to believe that Widnes offered about that amount for him recently.
Westerman deal was to save losing him for nothing like they did Shenton IIRC.

As I posted earlier, how does that stack up against the £100k+ claimed to have been paid for Andy Lynch...which incidentally makes even the Westerman fee look like peanuts taking into consideration age and return on investment.

I think that's the point though - having been a selling club for donkey's years, we know full well that when a wealthy club comes in with an offer, even for key personnel, the club are hard pressed to turn it down. Broughy is a prime example - he was the stand-out SH in SL, our absolute best player and won us many matches; despite that, Shudds were able to spirit him away because we needed the brass.
I don't know if Cas are in that position or not and weirdly, I find myself hoping that none of the big fish are able to make RW an offer he can't refuse; the only club I'd like to see him go to is WTW, and that's never going to happen - in financial terms, our new owner has got us off the life support machine, but we're a long way from being fully rehabilitated.

What do you think about the notion that AG invested in WTW thinking that you were going to be a Championship club and got caught out by the late demise of the Crusaders and is now probably out of his depth in SL?

The Westerman helped pay for planning permission for the new stadium instead of putting the burden on the club but it wasn't the MAIN factor in selling. We offered him a new contract, he turned it down so as someone above has put, to avoid losing him for zilch (as that proved his intention to move on anyway) we accepted an offer from Hull for £175k, I believe.

I think it's nonsense; if that were the case, why bother producing such a good franchise application?

Agree with your point so was quite surprised that Cas turned down a very large offer from Leeds (well in excess of the £200k suggested above) for Chase.
Can only presume the board realised that the amount they made on the sale may be lost through fans voting with their feet and not buying season tickets...

| Some people just don't get it! Chase loves it at Cas and doesn't want to go anywhere.
