| Quote: who needs flankers? "List of Championship coaches. How many of these would you give the job to over Millward?
Fev - Daryl Powell
Batley - Karl Harrison
Widnes - Denis Betts
Sheffield - Mark Ashton
Halifax - Matt Calland & Brian Noble
Barrow - Dave Clark
Hunslet - Paul March
York - Dave Woods
Dewsbury - Warren Jowett
Toulouse - Gilles Dumas
Out of that list... I'd say 6 of them I would rather have than Millward. Ok, a few might not want it and most of them didn't apply but a SL club taking IMO the 7th choice championship coach is a joke! I haven't even listed the out of work at the end of the SL season coaches and the assistants and U20 coaches in the NRL!
I really hope this isn't true! Bring back Dave Woods.'"
I would probably take Darryl Powell, Brian Noble and Mark Aston. The rest I wouldn't be interested in

I would scrub aston from that list but totally agree with the rest of the sentiment...luckily for us DP is staying but whoever gets him when he goes will be getting QUALITY!

I think Aston has done pretty well with the restrictions he has, given more room to move with regards budget etc he could probably do a lot better

| Hells Bells!
What does this actually say about how attractive the coaching position is at Cas??
If only half the rumours are correct then he must be the 3rd or 4th choice with the rest having turned the job down.
Exactly how is this job being sold to the candidates? I suspect RW's involvement has sealed it's fate!!!

True, but imo neither is Millward. The circumstances which he left Saints and Wigan tell me he isn't right for us nevermind his coaching style

| If were are comparing these to Millward or looking at past coaching jobs:
Fev - Daryl Powell - failed at Leeds
Batley - Karl Harrison - failed at Salford
Widnes - Denis Betts - failing at Widnes
Sheffield - Mark Aston - no SL/NRL experience
Halifax - Matt Calland & Brian Noble- Calland sacked
Barrow - Dave Clark - no SL/NRL experience
Hunslet - Paul March- no SL/NRL experience
York - Dave Woods - failing at York
Dewsbury - Warren Jowett- failing at Dewsbury
Toulouse - Gilles Dumas-failing at Toulouse
Just my opinion mind..

Yes, but only on message boards! Supposedly very highly regarded, but unproven, so who knows...

Agree mate....he is only coming for a slice of your cake(cheque)
he says too many daft things for my liking and there are enough negatives from various areas to suggest he has an ego bigger than any club he works for...Players don't want a dictator the want a coach mate..
I was joking earlier to be honest If he has to go to a SL team I would prefer it to be one over the penines and take his merger crap over there with him ...or even better in Australia..

| I don't know anyone needs to read the papers and read press releases becuase the number of people on here who "know for sure" we have offered the job to several people who have turned it down which clearly means that we must be crap, Richard Wright upsets them and we are not attractive.
I turn down people for jobs all the time for an array of reasons - like it or not, the appointment is going to HAVE to work with our board and vice versa, so this is EXACTLY the time when we should iron these issues out....... One does not join our board or become our CEO to make money becuase sport is a well known bad investment, so; before we go steaming in blaming all concerned, unless someone comes to the table with money to take over and change the structure of the business, I am relatively grateful for the modest but stable and predictable and well managed budget we have, I would rather be stable and evolving as we are that be where Wakey, Catalan, London, Wales, Widnes..... etc are or were.
Could it be, go with me for a second, it is a leap of faith: That nobody actually knows anything for sure, that all these are opinions no more valid than mine and in the end it will be hugely underwhelming when the announcement comes that "X person has got the job, yes we were in discussion with others, but we got our man in the end"
Then we can all start "knowing for sure" that 20 people turned us down, Cas are lying and actually who we got was 23rd choice after the golden gamble sellers, the bloke who does the PA's and that geezer who runs the sweet stall near the bar?

Mate, you won't find anyone on here willing to let anyone have mistakes in their past and learn from them, but I agree with you completely!
This forum's majority view is: Coaches don't develop, if you say colourful things to make good copy then god forbid you ever want a proper job again, our BoD is a joke, everyone we offer the job to turns us down - Fact!

You make some valid points and in particular the fact that sport is a bad investment option for making money, but you also need to remember that the supporters of any Rugby League Club or whatever field of sport it is,also make a financial investment in the clubs they follow.
Those investments by the supporters week in week out, both financial and physical are the reason that sport survives,so yes the BOD are important but without the fanbase your club is finished.
It is for those reasons that I believe that your fans (any fans) have the right to speculate, question and yes criticise BODs for the actions the carry out on behalf of the the clubs they represent..I don't buy into non accountability on the grounds of finance invested..This game is the peoples game and anyone entering into investment in a club needs to remember that or not bother..
