An extremely wise man (Sir Ian Mcgeechan) said that the talent needs to learn to play for the team and then the team can learn to play with the talent. He knows a bit about putting individuals together to play in a structure.
I can only surmise that off the field he is compliant, supportive of the structures and positive in his contributions, making it a gamble worth taking.
Personally, the challenge of integrating Rangi into a system is as difficult as a task I have ever seen! But that's why I was a bad player and an even worse coach!
