| I would like to see Shenton back, but not on silly money.
If Saints want rid, time to negotiate or leave alone. But beggars cant be choosers and Cas aint very atractive to most players nowadays

| Youngquest - looks like he's set on moving to New York next season
Arundel - Hull bound it seems
Griffin - not Super League standard
Orr - too old, time to move on
Ferres - Huddersfield bound apparently
Snitch - No thanks
Jones - No thanks
Hudson - Time to retire
Jackson - Time to retire
McGoldrick - Why is he even still at the club?
Davies - Needs a new contract, kid will be a beast
Grehan - Why was he even signed?
That's probably 500k on the salary cap - that's a lot to play with for say: Michael Shenton, Jake Webster, Matty Smith and some barnstorming south sea islander second rower then some squad players.
Owen
Clare
Shenton
Webster
Dixon
Chase
Smith
Huby
Milner
Emmitt
New signing
Holmes
New signing
Clark
Millington
Walker
Davies

As already stated.
Don't think we'll pay Shenton £120k, though, either.

I would retain Youngquest, Arundel, Griffin, Ferres and Davies. I really do think people are being very harsh on Griffin - perhaps just another scapegoat that people are trying to pin blame on.
Snitch has impressed this season and probably out the lot has looked like he's wanting to earn a contract the most. If he's willing to play for less might be worth a new deal as a squad player but he could probably walk into somewhere like Widnes on a better deal.
Just a question of whether we can sign players to make these people want to stick around (with the higher earners going on to reduced terms).
Backline:
Owen
Youngquest
Clare
Dixon
Griffin
Atkinson
Shenton?
Webster?
Arundel
Chase
Johnson
Brierley?
Forwards:
Massey
Huby
Emmitt
Walker
Millington
Nash
Ferres
Snitch
Thompson
Holmes
Milner
Clark
Davies
That's 24 players if we get them all signed up. We have also have kids like Martin coming through the ranks too.
I reckon we'd probably only need one or two back-rowers and a half and we're nearly there.

I don't think Cas will have a choice with Youngquest, he seems pretty sure on going to NY, Arundel & Ferres are apparently done deals so again nothing Cas can do if that's true, Davies is a must keep.
Griffin however, nothing to do with him being a scapegoat - you're the only person who appears to see any sort of talent in him. He just isn't Super League standard.

| On what basis?
His try scoring his ability?
Or his 'apparent' inability to tackle, when he's not even in the top ten. In fact, he's not even in the top 50 for missed tackles.
For us:
Top try scorer
6th in tackle busts
6th in carries
Second in metres
Top average gain
3rd clean breaks
Seems to me like he's a very good attacking player. He just needs someone inside him that is strong in defence and can help nurture his game.

That's because not attempting to make the tackle (or not even being in the right position, or being close to being in the right position) doesn't count as a missed tackle - the exact same reason why McGoldrick never appears on these lists because the both of them just don't bother.
As for his attacking stats - you could put any player at the club on his wing and they'd put up similar stats, in fact if you put Youngquest there they would be even better.
Flying infield when he has no need to do so is just unforgivable as a professional player and the fact he's doing it on a continual basis shows either A. the coaching staff aren't doing their jobs properly or B. Griffin is too thick to understand what he's doing is wrong...and with him being dropped for someone who's been at the club less than a week, I'll go with B.
He's such a good player Nathan Brown didn't want him at Huddersfield, BATLEY didn't want him and Wakefield were all too happy to get rid of him - because all 3 teams knew he was a defensive liability and average in attack.

| Youngquest - two less tries
1 more tackle bust
9th in carries
4th in metres
5th in average gain
5th in clean breaks
So in all but one in those, Youngquest is worse.
Compared to international class Ryan Hall
Hall has 1 more try.
Griffin has made more metres
Griffin has better average gain
Griffin has made less errors so far this season.
Obviously Hall does come better on other stats such as missed tackles and offloads but the high missed tackle count from Griffin probably comes from the fact that teams like attacking down our wings because it's a vulnerability.
Says it all when 7 out of the top 9 in the list are backs (Ferres included as he seems to have played more there than SR). Other two are Mitchell and Holmes, which are the two positions usually outside the centres in the defensive line or at the side of the halves. So, yeah, I think you're being particularly harsh on Griffin and judging him when he's not had a settled centre partnership and his centre partnerships consist of a winger and two second-rowers.
His pre-season form was excellent when he was playing on the left flank.

| Younquest has also been on the opposite wing, if you had him & Griffin swap wings you'd see far more production from Youngquest compared to Griffin does currently.
You're vastly over rating someone who, at best, is average. Personally I'd much rather have James Clare in the side over Griffin.
Quote: "His pre-season form was excellent when he was playing on the left flank.'"
The majority of the side looked good in pre-season, as did the attacking flow that shows pre-season games mean nothing because when it comes to playing games that actually have a point to them, Cas are being easily defended and Griffin (along with a number of other players) don't look good enough at all.

| Playing on which wing is a matter of irrelevance! If Youngquest played on the right wing, he'd still show the same worth ethic, the same hunger for work. And Griffin would still have the same frailties of playing outside some who isn't a centre! And I think your statement is even more outlandish when you consider that we seem to play a left-hand side dominated attack with Chase being down that side!
Although Clare has only played a few games, I think it's too early to compare players like you have with such a wide-sweeping statement. That being said, I don't think Clare has been standout to make me think he's better nor would I pick him on the fact he's 'homegrown'.
It seems some of our fans think that because players are 'homegrown' they escape from being criticised....well, except bar Owen perhaps but then you can't really defend the indefensible.

Erm...
One winger (at every club) sees the ball more than the other winger (the same goes for centres too). Shenton is having the same problem at St Helens, he never sees the ball so he never has the chance to do anything.
There's really no point arguing with you though because to use an American term you're a "homer" and you will defend anything to do with the club to death, no matter how poor the player/coach/board member etc is.

| Absolute tosh and you know it. Given the fact that I just criticised Owen above then makes your point invalid straight away.
So you wouldn't say that we have a tendency to attack down our left flank more then?
