Presume he's only going on loan then? I know it happens quite a bit in football (Man City especially given they're paying so many of their unwanted players way over the odds) but clubs only contribute to wages whilst the player is on loan.
The suggestion that Mathers just needs to sort out a pay-off from Cas would indicate it is a permanent move and if he's getting a pay-off I fail to see why we should then be contributing to his wages going forward as well!

Really fooked off if this is true as a) think he could still do a job for us and b) if we are as skint as people say then why offer to pay half of his wage!
Important part of the post underlined.

| I can't understand why we would possibly want to get rid of Mathers. Terrible move by the club if it turns out to be true.

Milward has said that owen will be fullback next year, mathers would be rather expensive back up. Also didn't mathers want to leave wire because he didnt get the no1 shirt? He wants to be a first choice fb, which he knows he wont be at cas.

| Never really liked Mathers the person but Mathers the player has skills no doubt about it.
I thought he played well for Cas when I saw him so apart from wanting to play Owen there (which is fair enough) I don't know why you'd get rid.
From Wakefield point of view he would go well. He's an attacking FB but also seems to organise the defence well whichw e will need with a completely new team.
And if you are paying half his wages too you must be mad.
If that deal stands for other players we'll take a couple of those young forwards off your hands too ![Smile icon_smile.gif](images/smilies//icon_smile.gif)

Well telling us the leaked email about naming rights was for the new stadium and that its was an error by a junior!! Getting Casforum to take down the liableous thread when it was true.
And wasnt Poskitt only bragging about "having to go to london for the Probiz do" only last Friday, and as for Ben Parker is there something going on between him and Gary Schofield ??

They were probably reading the Wakey board where according to our resident board of experts Mathers is rubbish. I expect you will now sign Tongia (who?) who is by contrast and after only 4 games at BV the new Billy Slater.
I rate Mathers though as a Wakey fan I'm not allowed to say that and would take him over Tongia any day - so fingers crossed from me that it's true.

I rate him too, and even though I'd prefer Tongia, having Mathers would soften the blow. If it turns out to be true and we do get him, I don't believe for a minute that Cas would be paying half his wages. They'd have no reason to.

Its not difficult to work out. Cas want rid, he's willing to go but he's a big earner. Wakey willing to take him off their hands but not willing to pay him his full wage so Cas either give him a pay off or pay the difference in salary, otherwise no deal and they are then obliged to pay him his full wage for a player who is unlikely to play. Everyones a winner, Mathers gets new new club, Wakey get an 80K player at a reduced rate and Cas get a large chunk of wage to invest elsewhere in the squad. Simples.

The problem with that theory is that if cas say to him you arent going to be playing he isnt going to want to be sat on the sidelines and putting his career in jeopardy, he will just ask for a release which he will get.
