Quote: West Country Eagle "Hi all. QUick question - I know Trinity have a an 'action group' with regards to their proposed stadium at Newmarket - is their one for the planned Cas stadium at Glasshoughton? I ask because I'm writing an article for Rugby League World magazine on the two proposed grounds, the impact on both clubs, how each is progressing, the WMC ultimatum etc, and would like to talk to a Cas supporters' group (or similar to Wakey's SWAG) for their take on all of this.
If anyone knows the answer, or has any contacts you think would be useful to me, you can PM me or email:
Hi matt , if you are writing an article, how about including a few truths about the RFL are shafting Cas and to a lesser extent Wakey, or will you just toe the Superleague line.
All is not well in that stinking pit of depravity (Superleague)

I'm going to try and get the views of fans across. We don't just want the RFL/SL view in this article. To be honest, we know what they think/say/do - what's more interesting is whats fans groups think IMHO - hence why I'm trying to get in touch with people like the CTSC etc.

I think you will struggle to get a positive view from any fan. Personally I would have to question how sensible the rfl are in basically forcing clubs to build new stadiums during one of the worst recessions in decades! If the RFL want clubs to stretch themselves beyond belief, why don;t they pay for these stadiums themselves.
Castleford are currently in the fortunate position of owning Wheldon Rd, this helps to give the club stability. A luxury they won't have when/if they get the new ground sorted.
The bafoons at the RFL are trying force the game to grow at a rate it simply can't cope with, while selling the games soul and heritage.
We do not need a new ground, yes Wheldon Rd is old and could do with some money spending on it. But it is safe and large enough for the crowds that attend.
Yes we would all love a new stadium, but not at the cost of crippling the club. The RFL need to take a look at themselves and realise what they are asking clubs to do in the current economic climate is simply utter madness!!! Rant over

| Wheldon Rd is one of the top stadiums in the Country. If the railway end had a roof on it would be my 3rd favourite ground behind The Shay and Halton Jones.
Standing on steep terracing with electric atmosphere can't be beat, the RFL are a joke and will never listen to the real fans.

Halton Jones? Have Warrington and Widnes merged?

| Don't you just wish for the good old days when the league you played in was based upon your on field performance. Just imagine if Blackpool had not been allowed into the Premiership because their ground is too small! God the RFL are a joke.

| Yeah, that Peter Box has infiltrated Rugby League World now and spread the seed of his anti-Wakefield agenda to them.
Not forgetting the fact that the owner of RLW is a Wakefield fan of course, but don't let that get in the way of your conspiracy theories.

I find it amazing how these conspiracy theories stop Wakey fans looking objectively.

| Looking at the Plans when they were on show at Stanley the ground would be more Methley than Stanley. Did you know it was that close. most people could still park in the same place and walk.

| Location is irrelevant. It's the only the Wakey fans whinging about it to be honest. It should be the one which will a) get built quicker and b) has the better opportunities to get more businesses on board, sponsors, fans and which allows clubs to grow.

| Newmarket.... a field and a set of crayon drawings
Glasshoughton............... groundworks done, outline planning, transport links, state of the art entertainment complex next door, architects working away furiously as we speak ...etc
It really is a no brainer but i would sooner not share with our challenged neighbours

Do we really need to keep explaining this:
a) To attain most of the funding - it was hoped that Paloma, who owned the Hicksons site, would clear it up and start regeneration enabling us to sell The Jungle. Alas, they went bust.
b) Because we don't have designs/architects in place.
