| Quote: poppys mum "I think the reason we had so many youngster play last season was due to the fact we was a small squad and had no one else to call upon.
We had to use the youngsters no option tbh.'"
I'm under no illusion that the size of the squad meant that youngsters got more chances, but surely that's better than signing temporary veterans or when we resorted to loads of loan-signings.
Plus - we're doing something right that these youngsters look so good, we can't keep them all and it's flattering that top clubs consider these to be the kind they want.

Is it Matterson's fault that the club probably cannot match the wedge that the midgets will have thrown at him?,

| Promising kid leaves one club for a bigger club....isn't that the way it's always been? Once upon a time Cas would have had no difficulty tempting anyone they fancied away from clubs such as Huddersfield because we were regularly among the 'winners'. When the game became less of a sport than a business the balance of power shifted and the likes of us,Wakey,Oldham,Fev etc have found their conveyor belts of local talent hi-jacked by the Bradfords/Warrington of this world as well as the traditional big hitters like Wigan/Leeds. Huddersfield, by a mixture of good luck and good management have joined the list of clubs above us in the pecking order and while we might not like it we have to live with it...at least for the time being.
It seems fashionable to turn any thread about a disappointing development into another Matterson blame fest but with regard to this particular thread just consider how we managed to get Rangi Chase from St George-Illawara.

Rangi Chase IS the best player I've seen in a Cas shirt over the last 20 years (considering his defence and kicking is ordinary at best, it goes some way to demonstrate just how lethal he is when he's carrying the ball).
Nikau; Ellis; Ford are all right up there, but considering the players he's had around him, Chase is truly phenomenal. There's barely a single player out there who could have the impact on us that he has.

they have gone to fev. most of them were stanley lads, there coach was steve copley who worked at cas and is now at fev, so he took nearly all of them, although a couple went to wakefield.

| well they never mentioned miss piggy or kermit the frog ! but one looks like a porker and the other is green as grass. dont want to get the bloke who told me this into hot water so wont mention names - but good coaches,i was told of 6 including 2 now at fev , 2 at gateshed, 1 at wake who is indeed well respected in youth circles and 1 well known ex player, aswell some very handy young players have all gone elsewhere and they reckon more could follow due to shoddyness and unprofessional people.
I suppose every club must have these problems , but always thought cas was one of the best in this area.

| Obviously you're source is unreliable. Leigh fans told us in no uncertain terms earlier this year that no championship team other than Widnes is allowed to run scholarships or youth development teams.

| Quote: tttiger "dawson is a winger - from what i recall he has great potential, saw him play academy last year and have some great games, bit steady this year but the under 20s was a poor outfit overall . this could bite cas big time . I reckon this lad has potential , not the finished product but could be.
It seems cas can only see the obvious starlets like westerman/owen/milner (anyone who has ever watched the game could see that they are worth a shot) but the inability to recognise potential in players like dawson is a worry.'"
Dear misinformed, if you believe that the under 20s was a poor team then you need to look more closely, the youngest team in the competition and players been developed in the right way and yes they all have another one two or three years left in that competition. If you are result minded then you must be an even bigger moron than your comment seems to suggest. Academy competition is about developing players not winning.
If Matty Dawson makes it at Huddersfield good luck to the lad, have you considered that Castleford may have made the right decision for Castleford and in the lads own interest.

You do appear to read like a former Castleford Tigers scholarship coach with an axe to grind, as a guy once told me it is not about the scholarship players you have, it is about those players all clubs sign at 16 wether on a scholarship or not.
For arguments sake have you considered that Castleford may be happy that those coaches left even by there own accord, and do you truly believe that it is Gatesheads gain and Castlefords loss, that tells me you know nothing or you are simply blowing up there ****
If you consider good coaches to be those amateur coaches that have left to be replaced by Lee crookes and James Ford that tells me then Castleford may just finally be getting it right.
Do you really believe that it truly inspires scholarship players lets say for instance from Castleford Panthers under 15s to be coached by the Stanley Rangers under 15 coach I think not, would a under player be more inspired that he was going to be coached by a former player of the stature of Lee crookes I think yes.
As for the well respected coach at Wakefield who the hell says that, he coached Normanton Under 16s can we have a dose of reality please.
I would suggest that if you have a problem as your post suggests Steven Gill will give you time to express your concerns but you wont do that will you, you will snipe away on this forum. GROW UP MAN you've left
