Gilmore did go high but joe was stooping down.
The only thing that really annoyes me is joe didnt even have the ball, it went behind him.
Tackled with out ball is that an offence. Mmm'" Having just watched it back there was nothing wrong with the tackle and he only lost the ball seconds before so Gilmour did nothing wrong it was just very unlucky.

| just seen it the pass from fookitupmoaner was atrocious, Joe bent for the ball, but Gilmore was on him, contact with the head took place but as Joe was bending down is this classed as a high tackle Joe fell awkwardly obviously concussed so a culmination of the head contact and his falling were to blame. foul play... id say not intentional just a terrible injury get well soon lad

| Absolutely nothing I can see wrong in the play leading up to the incident, culmination of factors led to Joe being knocked out and clearly lost consciousness.
Having a fit having suffered a head injury is not especially uncommon at amateur level one of my mates has played in 5 or 6 games it has happened in - that is just a poll of 1 person. Though very distressing and as a father and husband - I wish nothing but the best and a speedy and 100% recovery for a bright young star.
I think some people are looking at the outcome of the incident and trying to make a crime fit the result - but sometimes in a professional collision sport things like this just happen. There isn't always a villain, the best thing we can do is wish Joe and the Westy family all the best and a speedy and complete recovery, I am sure in the weeks to come if he remembers it he will clear up there was no malice or intent in the collision and he will have had worse and got up from them, it's just this one was a seriously bad outcome.

| I couldn't make the game yesterday, but was shocked when I heard about this.
It sounds like Joe's ok though which is a relief and I hope he's better soon and back on the field.

| Seeing a player fitting or having spasms is very scary and there can be no doubt as to the severity of the situation. Sounds like he got through OK and more of a scare than anything else and thankfully he is ok. It really is a hard hard game.

| The incident happened right in front of where i was stood and looked worse on the day than when i have looked at it on SSN. Not a lot in it to be honest. Yes it was a late challenge, but more bad luck than anything. It was absolutely horrible to watch Joe lay like that, and made my GF feel physically sick. The big dissapointment to me was how the officials did not stop the game quick enough, despite the efforts of the Saints players to alert the ref (what were the other officials looking at??!!). If the injury had have been of an even more serious nature there failing in how the incident was handled could have had serious consequences.
Just one last thing at that is - Get well soon Joe

What about Terry Newton using his forearm to deck Sean Long a few yeas ago ? That was malicious and full of intent.

| Heard about the incident yesterday on radio then watched in on SSN last night and it looked like Gilmour did clip JW very slightly on the head but I would say that there seemed to be no malice in it whatsoever.
It didn't look good for him the way he was moving his legs but it's great to read that he's now been released from hospital.
Hope he's well enough to be back playing soon.

| This is fantastic news, I reckon Joe will be wanting to get straight back into the action, but I hope we take things steady with him. His health is the most important thing.

| i'm not saying it was malicious but gilmour swung his left arm and you CLEARLY see JW head whip back and he is out straight away. JW head barely hits the floor its poor technique which led to a player being knocked out and being stretched off. No forearm no injury fact, open your eyes and i am not a cas fan, i'm a wakey fan. infact i've just watched again several times and JW head makes no contact wuth the ground at all. So what knocked him out then????????????????????

To be fair, I understand our concerns that it did seem to take a long time to get help to Joe, but the referee didn't know what had happened IMO. If he knew that Joe was down and seriously injured I have no doubt play would have stopped immediately.
This was an unfortunate accident, and I'm sure in hindsight there are many people who feel they could have done something different to stop the incident or get help sooner or whatever. We shouldn't be looking to blame anyone.

It doesn't help when players are knackered after player two games a week.
