| Well with Rangi leaving, will be interesting to know who Cas supporters think is the best stand off we have ever had.
Must be a choice between. Hardisty, Burton, Steadman, and Chase.
I loved all 4 of them, but I think I'll give the nod to Chuck hardisty.

| Joyner for me, though I guess it's arguable about his best position

| You could actually vote for Joyner in 3 categories - Centre, Stand-off and loose Forward. Classiest S/O I've ever seen but the Hardisty / Hepworth era was before my time.

| Can't agree, JJ was a great player but predominantly a centre converted to Loose Forward and Stand off later in his career -also a true gent, , Burton, Steadman and Chase have all been greats stand off's but all lack the class, vision during a game and loyalty to Cas that Hardisty had, this puts him head and shoulders above the rest. He did however come second to Chase in one area - ego.....

| John Joyner great loyal one man club, but not a stand off, played there a 3 or 4 years.
Not in same class as Chuck.

| Anyone who never saw alan hardisty play wont appreciate how good he was.
In my time of waching cas from 1958 to present.
It as to be hardisty.
What chase does is magical, but he imo was never consistant game after game in conjuring up that magic.
Hardisty was consistant every game and was a brilliant stand off.

I would also say Hardisty was your greatest ever player. Also don't forget he kept out the young and also great Roger Millward who had to be transferred to do great things with Hull KR and GB.If they let Alan move and kept Roger I think a few would be saying Millward was our greatest

| All the players who were mentioned as the best no.6 all had different styles of play so it is difficult to choose.
Never watched Hardisty play but my late Dad always maintained he wouldn't have been as good a player had he not had Keith Hepworth as his half back partner.
Joyner and Steadman played in different positions as well as stand off, and they along with Hardisty also played in more successful teams than Chase has...he has practically carried our attack for the last few years so for me Rangi just shades it.

I would argue that they should have kept Millward and got rid of Hepworth.
Both Hardisty and Millward were fantastic players.

Agree Roger went on to become a better player than Chuck. Taking into account all the variables Chase is the best ever Cas stand-off. IMO Reilly is unarguably the best to ever play for us......by a country mile.

| I expect this thread to generate a host of nostalgic and rose-tinted reminisces with regards to past icons.
For me, though, Chase has been nothing short of astonishing.
Whilst my age prevents me from comparing him with the likes of Reilly and Hardisty et al, I can honestly state that I would not wish to exchange him for any player world-wide (who could guarantee that if a Tomkins or Thurston were to put on a Tigers shirt they'd single-handedly win us so many games).
Not to mention those countless moments of sheer magic he regularly conjures out of nothing which the rest of the world's players seem incapable of.
Will be gut-wrenching to see him play elsewhere, but can't help feeling blessed with the great memories he leaves behind.
