Gareth Ellis is cutting short his time at Wests. This year will be his last for the Tigers and he will be coming back to England. Wests have granted his release on compassionate grounds.

Come on Cas - make this happen.

Financially we should be well placed to attract him with Hudson and McGoldrick off-contract and if he is not fussed about going out in a blaze of glory he might be persuaded to fulfill his boyhood dream of turning out in our black and amber.
However I suspect he will take one look at the quality of the squad we are likely to have and sign elsewhere.

Thats my worry, ellis is a winner. Why would he want to sign for an unambious club, even if its his home town team.
I think we will be out priced anyway, warrington/leeds/saints would offer him more than what we could.

We need a much better squad for next season to persuade him to sign.
With mcgoldrick/hudson out of contract i think we need to find 3/4 quality players with the monies saved on on there wages.

Us signing Ellis would show ambition. Ellis & Chase on the same team, we'd be a 2 man team k020.gif k020.gif

There is more chance of me getting a contract with Cas than Gaz Ellis, I mean I haven't completely given up hope but my cruel lack of talent, ability, ahtleticism and the fact I have not had any boots on since an ill fated comeback 10 years ago at Eastmoor aside - hope springs eternal.

I think there will be clubs with bigger wads of dollars to throw around than us - fact, not board bashing - so given this is likely to be his last big contract, I think he will be cashing that in and I can't blame him. Unless he thinks either A: he has earned enough and votes with his heart. or B: He is, like Danny Orr, thinking longer term, family settled and planning for life after playing - but I would arguably say that Ellis could get another 2/3 year big money deal and then still come to us to do B.

Nice idea though - Strange how everyone is convinced that there is nothing for Ryan McGoldrick at the end of this season, there is only one person who's opinion matters at this stage and he is on compassionate leave.

8. Emmett
9. Clark
10. Huby
11. Ellis
12. Holmes
13. Ferres

Not a bad pack for next season. And 5 Cas lads as well.

Think Cas should make every effort to sign him up. I think the money will be there just depends whether Gareth wants a chance of immediate silverware (Leeds), or a chance to pull on the shirt he supported as a boy and lead us into a new era. icon_razz.gifRAY: it's the latter.

If they keep Gentle Hull FC wouldn't be a bad shout, nor would St Helens if they kept Simmons.

The problems Cas could run into are the ambition of the board/coach.

He also, understandably, wants a very good final payday.

He could get more money in Australia over the next 3 years than he could in England. Have you not seen the strength of the Aussie Dollar or the fact that there salary cap is going up massively.

Its only average players coming over from the NRL that see real benefit as they go from being on a pittance to a decent wage on the basis that there Australian so must be good!

In order of likeliness I think it will be 1 Cas 2 Leeds 3 Warrington (they have some magic formula that makes players fit under the cap)

He made his break with Wakey, won things with Leeds, tested himself at the highest level he could with Wests and will now probably finish his career at the club he supports at Cas!

A 3year deal may scare off the top clubs because he will be 35 by the time his contract ends and will still be on huge money! A 2 year deal at Leeds and his swansong season at Cas would probably suit him well though!

I can see it panning out like that; 2 years on top dollar with a glamour club, then a final year at whichever smaller club can afford to pick him up.

Whatever happens, it'll be great to see him back in SL.

I know full well he could have made more money by staying in Australia, thing is he wants to play over here! He'll take the best financial package he can get, whether that be Cas or whoever. My bet is that he'll end up at Leeds again, Hetherington has already claimed they have room on the cap for a marquee signing.

My guess is Ellis would go back to Leeds 1st, then maybe Hull or Warrington next.

As much as i would like to see him in a Cas shirt i don't think the board could pull it off to be honest.
