| According to the website, Greg has a turned down a two year contact with the club and hence decided to take his chances else where.
rlhttps://www.castigers.com/article.php?id
For me the key line in the statement is typical defensive corporate cobblers '...The offer tabled to Greg was consistent with the policy that has worked well in recent years for young players who are unproven at Super League level. '
At a meet the Directors night earlier in the year. The question was raised about what we are going to do to secure the future of the excellent crop of youngsters coming through the club at the moment. The directors there present, agreed the need to secure them was important.....and that we as a club needed to start by offering them better deals than we currently do, as current offer amounts to peanuts basically.
Hence what a completely contradictory statement given today.........same old....same old Cas as ever!

A player with genuine place and skill gone
Is this a sign of the club on the slide or a club just resting on their laurels?

| There are a number of reasons that youngsters wouldn't want to play for Cas that are nothing to do with money:
1. League position/chance for trophies
2. Stadium
3. Training facilities
4. Future security - we're still far from a long-term SL tenure
Perhaps Cas offered him the right deal, but another club just appeal more because of the reasons above. He's hardly going to be offered a massive wage at any other SL club, but his chances for progression to the top level and international honours might be stronger elsewhere.
What Cas need to get sorted is the stadium. From there we can increase our resources, improve our league position and become a much more attractive proposition for young players with a bright future in the game.

Seriously the money levels being discussed were barely above minimum wage. Why would anyone serious about a career in the game, sign up to 2 years of that?

Yet the club threw silly money at Sherwin,Hudson and Mcgoldick. No way on god's earth were they worth the money
I think Eden will make the grade if it is the Giants he goes to.

| I can sympathise with you on this one - Shudds don't need to bother with an academy set-up, so long as they've got WTW and Cas doing it for them, and access to Uncle Ken's bottomless chequebook.

Micheal Lawrence
Leroy cudjoe
Eorl Crabtree
Andy Raleigh
Jermaine Mcgillvary
Jacob Fairbank etc...
products of the giants and youth system and more to follow
we have lost our own youngsters in times gone by when we were bottom or super league and relegated
chris bridge springs to mind
