| Castleford Tigers centre Michael Shenton is the only player added to England coach Tony Smith’s train-on squad for the forthcoming Gillette Four Nations and Gillette Fusion International against Wales.
Shenton, whose team were eliminated from the engage Super League play-offs last weekend, will join the squad for training on Monday when he will join the 13 players named last week.
Further players will be added to the train-on squad throughout the play-offs. Tony Smith will then name his 24-man squad for the Gillette Four Nations at a media conference on Monday October 12.
The England train-on squad in full, with their club and community club where they played as juniors in brackets, is as follows:
Tom Briscoe (Hull FC, Featherstone Lions)
Sam Burgess (Bradford Bulls, Dewsbury Moor)
Garreth Carvell (Warrington Wolves, Stanningley)
Tony Clubb (Harlequins, Greenwich Admirals)
Gareth Ellis (Wests Tigers, Castleford Lock Lane)
Mickey Higham (Warrington Wolves, Leigh Miners)
Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook (Harlequins, Greenwich Admirals)
Adrian Morley (Warrington Wolves, Eccles)
Richard Myler (Salford City Reds, Halton West Bank)
Stefan Ratchford (Salford City Reds, Wigan St Patricks)
Michael Shenton (Castleford Tigers, Upton)
Paul Sykes (Bradford Bulls, Thornhill Trojans)
Danny Tickle (Hull FC, Parkside Golborne)
Ben Westwood (Warrington Wolves, Normanton Knights)

| So 12 players from clubs who aren't good enough to make the playoffs get called up, but only one player from two playoff quality teams is deemed worthy of the train on squad?
Pathetic really...

That's what really makes it pathetic. In the league season, Wakey were the 5th best team in the competition, but none of their players (Atkins is injured obviously) are worthy of international selection whilst 13 players of teams below them are...

| Shenton, oh dear. Richard Owen would have been a far better choice considering our wing/fullback options. Saying that our Centre options aint much better.

Judging by your sig, your opinions on the qualities of players and clubs are pretty questionable

| Paul Sykes??????
We're obviuosly back to picking mates and favourites rather than players on form again. It's Noble all over again.
BTW, does anybody have the dates and venues handy?

Oh dear? he's the top centre in sl for scoring tries, despite being starved of the ball for large parts of the season when sherwin was out, and is very solid in defence. Who else was going to get picked? senior has retired, atkins is injured, gleeson has offered nothing in attack all season, pryce has played there in quite a while (and it was never his best position anyway), if sykes can make the train on squad, shenton who is 3 times the centre sykes will ever be has to be above him in the pecking order or we need a new national coach.

| Shenton deserves his place no doubt.
The idea of the train on squad is to keep a group together that could be considered for the last 17.
For me, especially after Atkins is not available, you'd be hard pressed to find someone better.
I'd say Owen and Westerman....and to be honest Ferguson at Trinity are unlucky not to be in but are probably in a more competitive position.
