We have alot of players coming off contract this year

Who should we be signing up (especially with widnes looking to buy lots of sl players)

Dixon- give him a two year deal very underated player
orr- another year if he can keep this up, would like us to bring in another hb so we can have danny in reserve like wigan have deacon, and pay him to coach the kids
Jackson- another year
ferres- 2 years before someone else comes calling
jones- with holmes, davies and harris coming through i feel we should keep one of aspinwall and jones not sure who yet.
isa - 2 year deal, think he could be a star for us in the future
fozzard -keep him on to coach the forwards and give him a pay as you play deal for when we run short
aspinwall- see jones
massey- release
thompson - 2 year deal, think he will improve alot when he settles down to one position and we would regret losing him if he left
widders- retiring i believe, we will miss him.

Would mind taking ratchford from salford, excellent at half back decent kicking game aswell. Out of contract at end of season and highly unlikely to sign another contract with salford with the way there heading.

Brierly was supposed to be the next big thing but havent heard to much about him this season, then theres ben johnston i think his name is.. saw the highlights of the 20's at bradford he looked quite sharp but not sure if hes ready for next season or the season after.

If we want to keep pushing to be the best we need to be bringing in the best young talent and ratchford is one of the best about imo.

Dixon - 2 years
Orr - 1 year
Jackson - Release
Ferres - release, over rated imo makes a lot of silly errors and seems to not like passing the ball
Jones - release, penalty machine
Isa - 3 years (if he wants to stay) will be a star
Fozzard - retire
Aspinwall - release
Massey - release
Thompson - release, isn't even playing well for York and there's better players in the u20's

Then sign 2 top quality NRL players and a couple of English players and promote a couple more from within again.

Chase, Isa, Youngquest + 2 new players

McGoldrick can go for me, year left on his contract and coming off an injury (plus the big contract & quota space). Jobs a good 'un then icon_biggrin.gif

Anybody got a list of English players coming off contract? Wouldn't mind putting in a cheeky bid for both Widdop and Ratchford - both coming off contract and can play pretty much anywhere in the backs.

EDIT:

Scratch that, forgot about Widders, give him one more year, think he will take that and just get 1 top quality NRL signing, someone like big Keith Galloway from Wests.

FWIW, if I was going on impulse and had to make a judgement now:

Dixon, Ferres -2 years
Orr/Fozzard/Widders/Thompson - 1 year
Isa - Will reserve judgement.
Massey - release
Jones/Aspinwall/Jackson - Reserve judgement + see who is available.

Agree with dixon and orr.
Jackson if he keeps this form up deserves another year as he has been immense so far this season.
Ferres 1 more year but play him in pack in his usual position to get best out of him, He is still relatively young.
Jones is a tackling machine so will give more penaltys away than most players as hes doing twice as many tackle most games.
Isa - need to see more but looks promising
Fozzard - could maybe get another year out of him if he keeps fit this season
Aspinwall - started slowest out of all new recruits but is improving each game
Massey and Thompson to be given a fair crack at first team before we just let them go to come back and haunt us.

To be honest I'd look at keeping the squad we have now. I'm sure Orr, Widders and Fozzard have at least another year in them. The only addition I'd like to see if a young half back who we'd like to replace Danny when he hangs his boots up.

Widders is a must. There can't be a better player coming off the bench in SL.

This is a strange thread, we are a quarter in to the best start to a season we have had for a lot of years and we seem to want to discredit some of our current players.

From my perspective, Danny, Deano and Fozzy are experienced pro's and they will know by August if they can in their legs and in their hearts do another season.
How anyone can bag Jacko this year is beyond me.
Similar for Ferris, he has played three positions, sometimes in one game and people notice him when he makes an error or gives a penalty away, but like Jones he is one of those guys that if you ACTUALLY condition yourself to watching them for 10/15 minutes and dont follow the ball, then you see their value. Stuart Jones seems to be a Marmite player for most people.
The other mentioned; We have to bear in mind that we see them for 80 minutes a week, TM, AH etc..... see a lot more and I think to judge them from the stands is folly.

One thing I do concur with though, even if Danny does another two years, now is when we need succession planning. But it is not as easy as buying someone in, it is a really delicate balance becuase if you go off overseas and buy a big name, you can very easily force your entire crop of U18 and U20 halves to go find other clubs. The way we handled Shenny going was perfect in my opinion. We promoted Arundel and Thompson to be playing in the three quarters, we demonstrated they were part of our plans and sent the right messages, while consolidating by bringing in Isa as well - that makes the whole wheel turn..... if that makes sense?

Only my opinion, not worth more than anyone elses on here!

You're right about replacing Danny - we need to groom players from within the club, with the veterans giving them the benefit of their experience. The problem in the past has always been one of needing "instant" success and trying to make "big" signings to replace players that were leaving. TBH, I was glad at how we didn't panic when it was clear that we had to replace Westy and Shenny, but never in my wildest dreams did I think that we'd perform as well as we have done. Now I know this won't happen every time we get big names leaving, but the club needs to make sure that there are skilled people waiting in the wings and hungry to be part of the team.

It looks like we've got the setup right just now, and long may it continue.
